I used to use Kaspersky, when it expired I have MSE a go, and ever since I've never had a problem, so I stuck with it. And it's free. If you're using windows 8, it is already in your system.

Anyway, my two cents. Good luck.

Speed- extensions and cookies in your browsers can slow you. Avast does OK, and has a dropbox for looking at things outside your firewall before letting them in. Get rid of all your extensions and cookies, and let it do a boot scan from restart. It will start seeing things and ask you if you if want to auto delete. If you want to buy, Saint knows his stuff. (buying avoids annoying pop-ups) Usually I just get off the net when I'm working. (chess and audio forums easily distracts me).

As a tech I don't ever use anti virus simply because it slows down the system...never had a problem with my system in years. What I do instead is add apps to my browser since any risks will be coming from the net as opposed to the old days before internet where discs where a security concern. Once in a blue moon I will randomly run some anti risk software but I never have anti virus running endlessly...it just slows everything down.

It is my recommendation that everyone should take the time to assess their own personal risk using downloaded software.

I have recently dodged a few bullets with the latest Audition CC releases out of Russia.. Have not searched or tried any others.

Have also noticed different posts of team realases of the same version are scanned cleanly or nuked by anti-virus.

Not all are 'false-positive'... After installing and patching Audition, found two files marked as malware and the other a trojan. One install,
two different infections. These files were added to the system and were easily dealt with. Infected files could have caused a clean
    system install at the worst..

Can't understand the logic behind this practice of distributing infected files. it muddys the waters for everyone.

For DAW worktations I suggest ESET NOD32 AV. And use windows firewall. NOD is great and it runs light. My DAW system is online online for updates and then straight off.

Hey guys, do you guys ever run antivirus on your pc or mac?
After downloading various samples, vst's and libraries from all over the internet
I was wondering if it will be a wise decision to get a antivirus for my pc?

Will this be recommended? If so whats a good antivirus to get for pc and mac?
Another question being, by getting a antivirus, could it interfere with my vst's and libraries? ;)

    what OS are you on?

In general, antivirus programs are not going to interfere with your Sample Packs or vst's. The only thing that happens occasionally is that an antivirus program mistakes a keygen or crack for harmful software and tries to block it. In that case, you'll have to exclude the folder containing any cracked software from your antivirus software.

Antivirus software really is a pain in the ass when it comes to cracked software.. I've been trying Kaspersky, Avast, even Avira, Bitdefender etc, but it's rare they really give you an ignore option that workswhen they find something. On my laptop I've got Comodo Internet Security. It's free and everythings working perfectly there. However, on my music machine the exact same version doesn't run that well... It's something to try as it's free and pretty good, but I can't guarantee it will work.

Avast is free, works fine for most things, is easy to turn on and off, and you can turn off notifications. It also has a "sandbox". Keeps downloaded things outside your firewall until they've been scanned. There can be some nasty bugs, depending on what/where you are downloading. Particularly key generators. Just don't click on anything you're not absolutely sure about is still the best anti-virus. One time I clicked on "Amy Poehler in a bikini- pics" and all hell broke loose. lol

I use kaspersky Internet Security 2015, if you so happen to have an online bank account with Barclays, you get it free, you get a security code every year for it. Along with this I use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Can safely run along side it. Comodo's Firewall is great as said already, if you need one that is, its free to.

    Kaspersky PURE 3 + Emsisoft Anti-Malware.
(Recommending in addition : Malwarebites Anti-Malware)

And you'll never get more problems, never....
