This is probably pretty obvious but I dont have any disco toms/disco lazer in my drum samples that sound as nice as this one at 0 seconds of this song. It seems like a standard sound, does anyone have this sample or is it from a particular drum machine from the late seventies ?

 

HaHa, I played on that session. Weird. Malaco had a set of Simmons electronic drums. I think it was the Sd-7, but I can't remember. The producer has just passed, his name was James Griffen.

 

SDS-7 came in 1985 or so and it's the first digital Simmons, Ring My Bell is 1979.
However, in that period they used lot the Pollard Syndrum, probably is that in the track.

Edit: or, just any (most) analog synth could create that simple decaying sound.

It's definitely possible, however I can't believe they were that creative on that session. It was recorded in Jackson, MS, which is known to be 10 years behind the rest of the world. lol

Nice one. Thanks to Orbitbooster and No Avenger for this info. I downloaded the video from youtube with save video and then sliced up the mp3 in fl studio Beat2Slice to get the drum samples from the Pollard syndrum and then matched the disco tom up to the song by putting it in the right key to get the sound.

That tutorial was also cool, so thanks to Poka chip for that.
