I recently bought and am using a Google TV device which runs on android OS. I think it has android 12. Still fumbling my way around, but I am enjoying it. There is still not a lot of audio/midi applications, that will work on this, but some do. Still no real DAW that will work with this. Cubasis 3 is supposed to be compatible, but when I tried it, it says it's not. Same with N-Track. I was able to get into bandlab, but it says my browser is not compatible. One that looked promising is an online DAW at audiotool.com. The biggest obstacle for this seems to be the ability to drag and drop audio. I tried to browse local files to import, but that didn't work. Might have been permissions. The one thing I want to ask those that are familiar is the ability to multitask on google TV. That means (for me) the ability to have two tasks open at the same time (visible and functioning, and interactive between them). It is at this moment just a curiosity for me, since I have functioning DAWS on other devices, and OSs. I have 4 gigs ram and 32 gigs of storage onboard, and I have a 1 gig thumb drive plugged in. It does it's job as a streaming TV very well, but I am wanting to do more. Anyone?

Buy a used desktop PC with Windows 10 on eBay or elsewhere!

    What is an Android TV?
Think of this smart TV platform as the "big sister" of your smartphone. What Windows is to your PC, Android is to the modern TV. From internet applications and streaming to live TV and games, you can download your desired apps from the Google Play Store directly to your television via Android TV. These apps are then technically adapted to the larger screen. Getting started is easy, as you're already familiar with the operation, settings, and security features from your smartphone. Well-known TV manufacturers like Sony, Sharp, Philips, and TLC are already successfully using Android in their TVs.

What are the advantages of an Android TV?
A TV with this technology opens up the vast world of the internet to you, including access to any streaming portal and the extensive selection in the Google Play Store. It also features Google Cast, which allows you to connect devices and, for example, stream pictures and videos from your phone to your TV. Control is via the remote control or the remote app on your smartphone. Voice control via Google Assistant is also possible with a compatible remote. The home screen provides a clear overview of streaming services, listed as channels. In the "My Selection" section, you can save your favorites and easily resume watching interrupted TV programs.

What's the difference between an Android TV and a Smart TV? Traditional Smart TVs come with popular apps pre-installed. However, the selection is determined by the manufacturer. This means that Smart TV technology becomes outdated after two to three years. Android TV is also a Smart TV technology, but it's not tied to a specific device manufacturer and is constantly evolving. This allows all app developers to share their latest features and enables you to download them seamlessly. With the right app, you can access your smart home system and control lights, thermostats, and other devices, provided the system is Google-compatible.

What should you consider when buying an Android TV?
The expanded access of an Android TV to the internet and smart home systems also makes it vulnerable to intruders from the World Wide Web. Similar to a PC or laptop, the new TV should be equipped with appropriate security packages and suitable privacy and parental control settings. For music lovers, combining it with a good soundbar is recommended, as the built-in speakers still show some weaknesses when it comes to large-scale events like a lavish opera or high-fidelity gaming.

Who should buy an Android TV?
Those who "only" watch TV will hardly be able to take advantage of the vast world of possibilities that Android offers. However, if you want to experience almost unlimited app freedom, streaming, and crystal-clear online gaming, an Android TV is the right choice. An intuitive user interface and the familiarity with the mobile version of Android facilitate a smooth transition from the small to the big screen. Thanks to voice control, Google Assistant offers particular advantages for less tech-savvy people in addition to convenience, and helps with limited mobility when the remote control becomes a problem.
