    :dont:
    next decade:rofl:

To start with, the compare is just a bit unfair to take a (technically 2019 Intel Core ) (Late 2020 MBP) vs a 2020(late 2020 M1) Apple M1 MBP 2021 (1 year difference in CPU development )
    upload_2022-2-13_2-41-19.png
    vs
    upload_2022-2-13_2-41-43.png

This is also the reason why the Rosetta 32% vs 29% is there
and vs 19% is simply because of the optimized system (not because the CPU has simply more power )

if we compare the top tier (nearly same year )
    we get this picture :
    upload_2022-2-13_2-45-6.png

they are nearly on the same level in terms of PassMark - CPU Mark

And the Reason for that is
They all use TSMC as their manufacturer (We have a saying here : they only cook with water)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TSMC

The M1 and bigger brothers have at this moment 2 advantages : Optimized System codes/OS ... or more general software and architecture without all the old legacy tools from x86.
    And better Power efficiency

the worst thing is that we all know that THEY .. those companies have technology 20 times more Advanced that what they Give us to BUY .. as the latest "SUPER CHIP"....

4-5 times, maybe, not 20 :winker:

there is something called Moore's law

IBM had it's first 5 nm Chips in 2017
with every 2,5 Years, a double in Power

And now we're having 5 nm tech in our chips when we buy something new . So it is not unrealistic that there are 2 nm chips in some labs with realistic 4-5 times more power
the official stat atm is this, but we know that they not go all out if they can :

Having the RAM in the same main chip that the CPU makes that thing fly because of lower latency and higher bandwidth. It's still DDR5, but they make the most of it.

Can you please fuck those synthetic benchmarks and compare a real life scenario? Like a daw & plugins, the way the guys from BC did? Because on paper my i9-9900k overclocked at 5GHz is more poweful than the M1 Pro and guess what, I can run bigger projects on the mac. Go figure

    Alienware x17 (i9-12900HK) 4:45
    MSI GE76 Raider (i9-12900HK) 4:44"
    (shorter better)

If I had the tech here, I would do a DAW test, but I have not $8000 for this
So I can only rely on the test others did.

    and again

I like that channel. It's the only one I view regularly about PC tech

So they say and I kind of buy it. Seems to be a quite improved technology besides the 7 to 5nm.

The prices will probably be ridiculous though...

Hopefully the competition from Intel will keep the prices sensible.

We're still lucky that Intel has come back quite fast. How sad is that... rooting for Intel
And with this new Ryzen you also have to buy new motherboard/RAM so Intel will be competitive in practice.

Yeah, the cheapest DDR4 3200 sticks are 3€ per GiB, the cheapest DDR5 sticks are 8€ per GiB. The price is not going to come down quickly enough for Zen 4 to be price competitive, unless AMD is going to release a version of Zen 4 that works with DDR4.

This transition would be expensive but unavoidable in normal circumstances. But if you throw the shortage and other current messes to the equation must be hell to be a CPU buyer now. Let alone the GPUs... that's straight madness and S&M...
And Intel 12K is DDR4 compatible too.

If you're using a recent pre of Reaper Nebula/Acqua only use CPU when processing audio and are automatically bypassed on silence. It can make a massive difference if you have many non-concurrent tracks using high CPU

Late to the party but I'm glad you guys pointed out how incredibly terrible that initial comparison was in this thread. SMH
