    Remember this early Ministry?

    "With Sympathy"
    1983

I laughed and laughed and laughed when i bought this in 1991, i had just "discovered" Ministry with "The mind is a terrible thing to taste" and went to see the tour they filmed the "In case you didnt feel like showing up" video (the tour with Jello Biafra)

I wasnt ready for the pure 80's Synth Pop sound that came out of my speakers back then... :) It is a far cry form "Stigmata" and a universe away from the "Psalm 69" album to be released the next year in 1992

still makes me laugh!!! funny how a band can change so much so fast (so thank god for HEROIN!!!!!!!)

    :) lol j/k

the only track i can stand at all is "Work For Love"

So here's some of that 80's Synth cheese sound lol

    Effigy (I'm not an)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdB6e91stm0

    Revenge
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3L0q6FQY0Y4

    This track BLEEDS 80's:

    I Wanted to Tell Her
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbnytG2m7gk

and here's the only ok track in my book: the break down percussion part is well done (and it is STILL hilarious)

    Work For love

    Then there is Joy Division...

Is it just me, or is this music TIMELESS???

it still sounds amazing today... As opposed to early Ministry lol

Ye Gods the depression and teenage angst is coming back as i listen to these tracks!

I love Durutti Column and I have those albums on CD, I used to have them on tape too. As always great choices my friend. :mates:

I kind of wished that we had left 80s out of this thread because it doesn't mix well with Alternative if it's synthpop. I guess we just weren't thinking ahead when this whole thing started but if I could do it all again I would put the synth stuff in the Electronic thread. Maybe I'm too logial, when I was 2 years old and people would come to my house I would arrange their shoes in perfect order. Then I grew up and though I have allowed plenty of chaos in as well, there are still areas where this sickness presents itself.

Also people put down cheesy 80s music but if it weren't for that period we wouldn't have practically any electronic genre as many artists found their footing here and later took the experience gained in new directions. Trent Reznor used to be in a synthpop band called Exotic Birds and many other Industrial artists took a similar path. Effigy (I'm Not An), I Wanted To Tell Her, Revenge...good choices my friend.

I'll get in on the nostalgia. One of my favorites and this is just proof of the aforementioned:

I'd really like that Rolma.

I used to come over to my friends house in the early years of grade school with Art Of Noise, Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk tapes and we'd listen to them while playing video games and drinking. What can I say I had a weird childhood. :snuffy:

And here's a favorite of mine, I also like Moments In Love but I already posted that:

About the 80's i just wanted to share my memories about that album and my early preconceptions about ministry always being hardcore lol

artists should always try new things, stagnancy is good for nothing but making mosquitoes as me great grandpappy used to say back on the river

in fact, i think im gonna change to being a county musician! nee-haw!!

I´ve seen on an interview that she comes from a poor background…
I imagine that part of the Thatcherism was to “secretly ”promote the music industry to leave an exit for the youth of struggling working class or whatever.
Much better channeling the angriness through the mic than have the ppl rioting. In a way a whole paradigm still valid these days
