massey tape head plugin is one of favourite plug for adding hefty to drums or any thing but only work with protools.
Any one know of alternative that works with VST mac ? looking for a simple 2 knob thing

I've never tried masseys plugins so i can't really compare the sound. But these are some I've been using.

you could try out PSP Vintagewarmer2.
ive been using that for years.

if you can find it somewhere, PSP Microwarmer. whitch is basicly the same as vintagewarmer2, just striped down to a couple buttons
ou can find it,

Softtube Drive, has 2 buttons. sounds good to many people.
Native instruments Driver. if used midley can prouduce nice results.

CamelCrusher. is free. only a few buttons. nice sound.

 

SoundToys Decapitator, its a bit pricey but its great for drums, bass, vocals, and hell I've even used it on the 2-bus before.

 

ToneBoosters ReelBus. Best quality/price plugin so far IMHO.

 

If tou want something free with subtle saturation, check out Variety Of Sound's FerricTDS. For more saturation, you also have TesslaSE ;)

 

Cool thanks for the inputs. I have some those plugs mentioned but none of them does what the massey tape head does.
the tape head not only saturate it also has some sort comp thing going on. it makes the kick sound heavy with nice harmonics so sit better in mixes. if you have Protools try the massey tape head. it only works on mono audio track in the trial mode.
Decapitator might be the closest
