It's called 'developing a tune'. You start with an idea and at the end something unexpected/completely different happens. Nothing bad with it.

It's the note choices that make it BeBop not the speed.
I guess Bebop has become popular for blinding speed and flurries of notes, so most people could be forgiven for thinking that. :)

Bebop is also notorious for doing ballads at ridiculously slow speeds of 45-55bpm too.

In writing novels, it's called the snowflake method and its idea is being used a lot in today's music.:bleh:

XD that's rly rly rly funny, guess you never met him round these parts? :D (I wish @Spyfxmk2 's output was limited to one hit per day, he's like a factory! You can ease up now and again! Please? =)

I know, but we all like to think we have some control over music, kinda really wanted to exert some will for a change. I made it as far as making an actual chorus / bassline! Wow! >___> Just felt the music take control of the rest, all by itself ya know...?

I mean, I don't know much about BeBop beyond a few weird modes (C Ionian + Eb, chromaticism a go-go) that I don't have enough fingers for (or sense). But I figured something everyday (standard Blues Hex) wouldn't really count? Also tried to avoid too many (any?.. well, not deliberately =) passing notes. I wanted to put in more grace notes, but thought better. I guess I need to be more restrained still. Thx for the feedback anyway, guys...

The diversity of style in the music of the twentieth century requires more than one system of analysis. Several systems have been proposed, but none appears to be useful for all styles of music.

You and no one in the world could have absolute control on music. Even in Jazz, those analyzing systems are usually forgotten (except for some guidelines) and your ear and taste (been developed by listening) play the main role. You can not analyze the improvised music note by note a thing that is done in the classical and by facing complexities, ambiguities arise that leave you alone in the dark sides.:winker:

I was only referring to the jazz genre, of course. Haven't heard anything like this before from him and was really surprised (and a bit jealous, that he managed this genre too [IMG]).

Control is an illusion, grasshopper. [IMG]

 That's the way, love it.

While making another album and mastering this one & riding a unicycle also (probably) juggling unicorns. I know! I know! XD

As a wise man once said: "if our brains get too smart they will become self aware and take over our bodies". Cause for concern!

The funny thing about BeBop is not that it is different to any other type of music, it's more that people have put it into a square box as being whatever they term it to be.

How did you become good at a specific style you love? You played it all of the time. It became second nature. It's not so much that it is one thing or another. It is like any style funk, reggae, swing, rock classical. It has its own way of playing it to sound right. The flashy stuff is not as important as the "how" and the phrasing. The dexterity aspects everyone shys away from are because of the analysis aspects.

If you listened to it all of the time like any music you became good it, then it becomes embedded. You intuitively phrase that way. Working out tunes from an LP or CD is no different here either. There certainly is a different level of technique but the desire is the main thing with any style of music. It's familiarity.

Of course, the desire to be familiar with something has to be present. :)

    Dayumn,

These two must be prize-winners, or else I don't know what:

SpyFx Spyridon - 777 (In The Jazz Club)
Mr Psanter - At Sam Kerney's Diner

    Top class :)

I guess that's why it came as such a surprise to me to learn that track was in that particular category. I did (desperately) shy away from doing anything "jazz" (cliché) and i feel that the only way that it can be called bebop is just in terms of tempo, hihat focus. No repetition, no passing notes, no repetition :D, piano just comping rly. Simple melody. It's more like an argument woozily getn out of hand, than players "giving way" to a theme =) I mean, personally, I think it falls more into Acid Jazz or even Cool category. And whatever category Soft Machine is in? Prolly bebop XD

(anyway, sry for topic hijack )=

Alan Holdsworth was involved in Soft Machine so the pedigree that came from that is pretty great
    It's all music - It's either good or it isn't :)

The album is brilliant (excluding my own track of course). I am enjoying everybody's input and fek, the bar is set too high, all tracks have a personal touch and cool production values. Some of the tracks belong straight to Ninja Tune's catalog hehe. Oh and for the haters i dedicate this oldie:
