looks like it supports now any midi controller.
at least software is now available as standalone for 99 bucks without buying an advance keyboard.
but its not really clear to me if really all controllers can be mapped

from the support forum (Community Manager) Simon bangs stated 3 days ago:
    • Hello

Yes any keyboard or midi controller is supported, the list in the release notes get the software free or it’s a $99.99 licence you can control any aspect mouse free through midi or parameter control.
if this is true thats a game changer imo, but im still not sure if its really well mappable/usable

can anyone with the VIP 3.0 software (free update), clear this up?

The short video looks like a switch/drum pad/fader assigner for USB controllers.
I have a Maudio 25key with 8 pads and a bunch of knobs that is a nightmare to program. Probably why it's sitting in it's nice anvil briefcase.
This makes it easier to program them?

is this only a way to automatically map every parameter of a VSTi on a keyboard? and, do we need to open it as a plugin inside our DAWs?
or, if I'm using a host for live (such as Cantabile or Forte or other), how am I supposed to use it?

OH S#i+!! i got the trial from plugin boutique and i mapped the first 8 knobs of my Maschine MK2 to it so it looks like it does work with every MIDI controllor! im broke as hell right now but when i get some money im buying it this has been my dream for so long to have all my presets in one place.Akai is a hell of a drug!!

thats what i was worried about

no, not only. there is a lot possible with this:
you can layer vst's and have 1 global preset bank, customizable, pre loading of vst's (=instant loading at gigs) it works as standalone or as plugin.

thanks for letting us know about the trial, i did not find it :)
downloading right now, 2,2 GB for mac
i hope they let us map browsing & stuff as-well.
and this could potentially force Native Instruments to do the same with Komplete Kontrol :)

oh ok, so it can be used as a substitute for plugin host like Cantabile and Forte. but, in a scenario where I need audio tracks too, so I need to use (for example) Cantabile, I can open it as a plugin. it seems a bit redundant using both of these software at the same time (Cantabile and VIP), but maybe it's fine.

i had the akai advance 49 and had to sell it. They never updated software for like 10 months and funny enough Vip3 only updated their software exactly when maschine announced mk3 lol. It didnt really help me layer or make music more productively, which is what i thought it would do when i bought it:(

I was about to download the trial version from Plugin Boutique when I realized that an iLok account is needed to install this thing. :(

No idea if the Advance keyboard also needs iLok but VIP 3 Trial version do need it.

    Why is that?

    ilok
    buggy
bidirectional midi is not supported on third party controllers
    crashes on various occasions

Akai makes some very solid controllers but this Software.... at v 3.0 such a mess....meh

The idea is just genius but the Software makes or breaks this tool, so

Native instruments Komplete Kontrol is the only way to go

im back to my Maschine with the Komplete Kontrol integration, it just works great.
The knobs have the right sensitivity and by pressing the shift button you can fine tune.

Also parameter Value & Name Feedback works perfect, so does the mapping of plugins & host automation.
cannot remember any crashes or other strange bugs.
