Airwindows plugins to finally offer Mac and Windows VST

Discussion in 'Software' started by returnal, Aug 6, 2016.

  1. I throw him a buck a month through his Patreon scheme and couldn't be happier with the return on my investment. In my opinion it's a no-brainer (which fits me like a glove). It would be awesome if Chris decided to create a synthesizer as it would be kick ass. The $1 a month would make him a millionaire over night.

@superliquidsunshine It's good to read you here, bud. I really hope you find your way around stuff. You are missed here.

I've been supporting Chris for a while, and it's like buying his $50 plugins in comfortable installments. I love his concept of not following business as usual, and his plugins are sometimes just what is needed for that sonic push to the next level.

ToTape5 was updated today to the second build, please re-download it, fixed and improved audio processing quality (Fatter, Softer options improved), users' reported known issues. Btw, don't know about fixed flutter, but first version had cracking sound at high amounts, more than 0.5 up to 1.0, very noticeable on subs, low/mid frequency sounds without highs. Use lowest amounts. Probably latest new build should be tested, maybe Chris fixed this, don't know. But gearslutzers prefer updated version much more.

i'm so embarrassed to say that i just don't hear a significant difference from any of these plug-ins. the videos are pretty interesting and humorous, but every time he enables one of his plug-ins and gets that smirk on his face i just get more frustrated that my ears are letting me down.

The smirk is priceless. The smirk-worthy bits I hear even on my Yamaha PAS300 portable PA system. Quite nice for small gigs and movies but not for mixing.

ToTape5 or FAthomFive on an aux send, you don't hear a difference?

What is your monitoring situation? Properly isolated?

Patreon takes close to 30% on $1 donations now. Some greedy venture capitalists recently stepped in and changed the payment FEE structure to discourage small donations.
The fee structure from his video description:
    Pledge $1.00 to pay $1.38, Patreon's cut is 27.5%
    Pledge $1.60 to pay $2.00, Patreon's cut is 20.0%
    Pledge $2.57 to pay $3.00, Patreon's cut is 14.3%
    Pledge $3.54 to pay $4.00, Patreon's cut is 11.5%
    Pledge $4.51 to pay $5.00, Patreon's cut is 9.8%
    Pledge $9.37 to pay $10.00, Patreon's cut is 6.3%

On a still higher level, if you're able to provide a substantial amount over the course of a year, then talk in terms of a year:

    Pledge $3.70/mo to pay $50/yr, Patreon's cut is 11.1%
    Pledge $7.75/mo to pay $100/yr, Patreon's cut is 6.9%
    Pledge $11.79/mo to pay $150/yr, Patreon's cut is 5.6%
    Pledge $15.85/mo to pay $200/yr, Patreon's cut is 4.9%
    Pledge $19.89/mo to pay $250/yr, Patreon's cut is 4.5%
    Pledge $23.94/mo to pay $300/yr, Patreon's cut is 4.23%
    Pledge $27.99/mo to pay $350/yr, Patreon's cut is 4.0%
    Pledge $210.17/mo to pay $2600/yr, Patreon's cut is 2.98% :)

I just doubled my pledge to a whooping $4/month.

  18. I know, just saw the video. Everybody is entitled to make a buck, but to discourage those that can only afford a small amount a year is borderline evil. Every transaction costs exactly the same to Patreon no matter the number. They are saying that basically it brings down the number on paper which is a monetary goal that they wish to achieve per transaction based on some wishful perfect goal. It seems to me that this is like coercion to push those without to dig deeper than they can do. I think in the long run people like Chris will be hurt because if a patron knows that a huge chunk of the dollar which they can afford to pay is going instead to some black hearted company they might not think it is worth it. I personally spread around the money that I can afford every month and might just narrow my giving to those which I know can use the money, the more needy folk. If I give 20 people a buck to 20 different people Patreon wipes up, and if 20 people give 10 bucks to two people they make still make out but others loose big time. It seems like a fixed racket, a big gain no matter what the scenario. Money sucks. I'm more than a little confused on which path I should take. I loved the Patreon idea and thought it an amazing thing, but not really so much any longer. A fixed percentage going to the company would lighten the skies in my attitude about this whole thing now, though I know it is not going to happen. I have become a pessimist about the future of everything and anything because of shit like this.

Well, since the beginning of Chris's Patreon support, I've been giving a fixed $4.00, which PayPal handles as a recurrent pay. It's not a lot, but like Chris himself claims, its better to keep a constant modest flow that to give a large quantity and then quit because of financial wooes. He is counting on dependability and a constant flow of cash.

Yes, people are greedy bastards. All these services make money in the similar manner to banks, which I hate, too.

But I like Chris. He's a really good, charming, decent and smart guy [all I'm not LOL]. He deserves support.
