A bunch of options popped up when searching but I don't always trust what the front page says on those results. Sometimes those random free programs come with spam and other programs that I don't need.

What is a best and safest way to do convert these types of files?

 

Soundforge, Wavelab,etc. any good wave editor should be fine; you will see bigger differences in batch conversion features.

 

Thanks for the quick reply! Shoot, I don't have either of those. Aren't those DAWs or Seqeuncers? I definitely need to convert a batch. I will look for those, thanks again.

 

Just regular old wave editors. If they will load an AIFF, they will work to save whatever other format you chose.

You are trying to find some small utility program, though. Ideally for Samples ? You will get some suggestions like those too . EZCD Audio Convertor type of things for PC. So much about many of those utility programs is really just personal preference, in the long run.

Yes, exactly. Just need to convert a sick drum library I found which doesn't have that many samples in it to begin with but they are so good that I just have to have them. I think I have EZCD converter on my other external drive. I wouldn't mind ripping one of the other 2 programs you listed just for a one time job.

Oh me too, and I think you can still find the version without the spyware out on the net somewhere.

As far as I can tell, Audacity was something on every ones computer even if they moved onto better software because it was great for small audio edits. I used to love it before the new facebook version.

 

Here's a neat trick: Just rename the extension from ".aiff" to ".wav". They are both (basically the "same") lossless PCM audio data.

 

This can't actually work without getting crackles in your session because the formats are offset, can it?
I know that among wav samples, the odd mp3 files causes some issues that's why I want the format to match.

 

Crackles? No crackles.
If you doubt it, do a null-test yourself.

Mp3 is lossy format. Totally different topic.

Yeah I get these unwanted audio artifacts when I chuck an mp3 sample among wav samples in my recording session. I thought that was universally true for all formats that don't match within the same project.

Never heard of just simply renaming something to convert it to another format, that's why I'm doubtful. But I'm not as technically inclined as others. I just want my drum sampler to accept it because I don't think it accepts AIFF.

 

A sampler that doesn't support aiff? Hmm. Shittysampler VSTi? I'm kidding, but you get the point.

Why don't you just try it now (renaming extension) to see if it works?

I think @Baxter is right: WAV / AIFF are technically the same -loseless pcm wavefile-. The difference is that Wav was developed by Microsoft and instead Aiff by Apple. All daw read both formats, I have always treated wav and aiff as the same thing and yes, when needed I rename the extension (never had problems).
Obviously you will have no problem (no degradation) converting from one format to another, respecting bitrate / resolution

Actually I'm not entirely sure, it could support AIFF but I'm assuming it doesn't only because I exclusively work the wav samples. Thanks for the tip, will try that soon.

Download FFmpeg binaries, place them in your path, open a terminal e.g. wsl on winndows. Go to the directory where your aiff files are, then execute the following command:
