Under 30 and sensible conclusions based on generalizations have yet to exist.

 

It is worth mentioning that the saying "Youth is wasted on the young" was not created because young people know everything.
It is also a proven fact that everyone has a talent in something, but recognising it and doing something with that talent, is the only thing that matters or it is worth nothing. To remove an entire population over the age of 30 as not progressing and losing their talent might be up there at the top of the list of "statements of ignorance."

 

C.Dion didn't like the song at all. If i recall correctly it was only after the producer asked her to just do a demo take that she made one pass at it. What you hear on the record is that one pass... Which goes to say it doesn't matter which song but who's behind it ...

Perhaps, what I'm saying is: After 30 we run out of good musical ideas; rappers especially become less dexterous and start rhyming offbeat; things don't quite "come together" as they did naturally in your teenage years or 20's. Surely, this is not controversial.

I really have covered this earlier but how can you possibly have the words "musical ideas" and rappers anywhere near the same sentence?
the skill of shooting fast syllables maybe , the skill of coming up with words that rhym of hidden cultural phrases and slang sure, but there has never and will never be "music talent" or "musical ideas" anywhere near rapping.
I like hip hop and rap for more than 30 years.
but I don't see any connection of "musical ideas" they don't even know what music is. unless you want to change "music" just to mean " any collections of sound changing over time"
but by doing that we lose all value of what "music" actually is and in doing that the conversation is meaningless to me.
the very best rappers and hip hop that has ever existed are at the musical development level of what you get in your first week of music school college , (yet your music school college could go on for 25 or 30 years and by year 25 lets say your knowledge triples each year)
that is to say all rappers and hip hop contains less than 1 % of music knowledge.
think of a infant learning to speak early on when their knowledge of the language is weak that cannot speak or think anymore complex than their knowledge of the language is.
music is identical if your musical knowledge is one quarter of a percent out of 100% than you can never express anything other than the exact place your knowledge on the subject is. you cannot express what you are ignorant of.
now hip hop has some nice boom clicks and boom claps sure.
they have great use of syllables great.
they find all the 2 and 4 syllable words that rhyme the same good.
however their music ideas never exceed a nursery rhythm level of expertise.
pin your best rapper ever best hip hop album that has ever existed with this song from the early 1940's and lets compare the rhythms and patterns ( since hip hop has nothing else to really look at)

Al jarreau released his first album after 30...

Joe satriani released Surfing With the Alien at 32...

These are just some names that come to mind... Im sure theres many many more...

I saw Buddy Guy play about 5 years back... And he can knock the socks of any axe wielder 20 years his junior...

And here Im trying to find musicians who made great music that achieved both artistic and commercial success...
