Did Michael Jackson make any good music after 30? No. It was all formulaic and over-produced.

.......Mic... Mi... for fuk sakes you did not just say that about Michelob Jackson.... who did actually continue to make hits until his death, which also had to do with the copious opiate intake he developed, probably as a result of becoming a rock star at the age of 5 or whatever..

not really... I'm going back to bed....

Of this I'm positive: there's a lot of BS threads like this lately

The kind of... replying to any of them is like explaining why the sky is blue.

Who made any musical innovations after 30? Nobody!

  6. Johnny's 70 year old body was wrecked from too much drugs and drink plus hard core tobacco smoking over his full tilt lifetime, so much so that when he recorded his version of Hurt he had actually already died, his artful soul powerful enough to perform in the studio...a true miracle (though he was sitting and not standing, standing even beyond the power of the Man In Black's potent spirit). In my opinion his version far surpasses that of the original Trent Reznor version, even as Johnny toned down the lyrics to suite his own personal sensabilities. He just nailed it, and from beyond the grave at that! That is what I call fucking old!!!

Damn, DieM, that's almost my story, lol.
In my case, I actually learned that for me it was more about finding the right collaborators. Once I figured that out, I was able to let go of a lot of preconceived notions about how songwriting and lyric crafting is to be done.
It's funny, though. After about 45 or so, my voice became stronger, and my range actually improved. I attribute that to the fact that I don't conscientiously endeavor to sound like someone else anymore. Which was truly liberating.

That makes sense to me. You know I also reckon that as you get older you feel less peer pressure and feel more relaxed. Your overall attitude helps to shape your vocals and you also have more life experience which comes across in your vocal style.

Or was the root cause of said stage antics. Actually, it all probably went hand in hand. I definitely notice heroin use and talent seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly. I can't even imagine one of today's "rock" "bands" shooting up ... and it shows in their music.

As opposed to the raw, gritty shit he was doing on "Off The Wall" or "Thriller"?

    from the man himself,

    Iggy Pop said.....

"I have a dislocated shoulder. I have a lot of cartilage lost in my right hip. Both knees are about to go. I have one leg about an inch and a half shorter than the other. When I was thirteen, I was run over by a big guy playing junior high football, and the right leg ended up a quarter-inch shorter. By my mid twenties, it was a half-inch. Then in the Eighties, I had no money and was taking packed economy flights everywhere, night after night. The combination of that schedule and a fall I took dancing on an amplifier left me with my spine twisted and a slight limp."

Musicians are like some good wine, they usually get better when they get older.
