Well... I can't really say it's not about freaking time. Great great band, we'll always have their classic music to remember.

 

Nothing lasts forever, even without injury you will not have the same range and abilities as when you were young, at 76 there is no way to sound like like you did at 26. It is inevitable, as a guitarist of the same age I can feel the difference in the dexterity and abilities that I once had, no matter how how I try my joints, muscle response and strength is nowhere close to what it once was and be painful, with arthritic pain for days.

But Steven's always been a glaringly unique exception to the rule with a four-ish octave range from D2 to E6, which is a lot - until now of course.

Steven Tyler's voice is unique and has been a gift, delivering so many great songs and performances over nearly half a century worth of albums and tours. From what I understand is that he just cannot recover from the workout anymore. Like Strat4ever said, nobody is immortal and our bodies break down over time making it impossible to get around this inevitability. I'm in the same boat and will keep playing guitar as long as I can but it has become painful to do so. For instance, a couple of days ago while on vacation (always have a guitar and a harmonica with me wherever I go) replaced the strings mistakenly with medium gauge instead of lights and couldn't even play yesterday because my fretting hand is giving me so much pain from the two hour workout the day before. If Steven Tyler can't heal his voice between shows properly he'll lose it entirely. He's doing the right thing. The band had an amazing run and now they all can just chill with their grandchildren.

Supposedly not only damaged vocal cords but also his larynx was fractured and bleeding after last fall's farewell tour which was postponed after only three shows.
So there...

 

I'd lie awake just to watch him breathing.

sorry to hear about the injury but yeah a little 35 years late.

 

Yea getting old is not funny. I'm 55 now and i can feel it already on a daily basis. Every morning i wake up i do not feel not refreshed, still tired. Asking myself what does not hurt today?! Reminiscing when i was in my 20s i jumped out of bed every morning like a taut steel spring, full of energy. Those days seem long gone and obviously not coming back in this life.
