    Hi,
I need to reinstall Win 10 as problems have been accumulating - it's that time I'm afraid.

I was just wondering if anyone had wise words about doing it properly:

    - Things to avoid doing, or on the contrary, that I should do when installing fresh.
    - Anyway to avoid having to reinstall each and every software individually? (Maybe there's some backup/install software I'm unaware of that can help in this?)
    - Things I should absolutely remember to backup that would probably reside on the C:/
    - Updates that should be avoided?
    - Tweaks to the OS (I've always used the stock Windows as is)
    - etc...you get the picture.

    Thanks in advance! :)

I also have to install windows10! Is it possible to find a secure ISO of windows 10 LTSB? Or activate the trial version from the microsoft website (with legitimate keygen)? Sorry for the intrusion (and for my bad english)

Advice for after you are done installing it all, use Acronis True Image to make an image of the drive, then next time you need to reinstall, simply restore that image, takes 10 minutes anbd you are done :)

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT INSTALL THE NEW "SECURITY UPDATE". The one that's installed using the windows 10 update assistant. Trashed my DAW performance. Way less plugin count headroom. And I literally just did a clean install and was having a wonderful time and that update ruined it.

Can you please check which KB update is that? I did clean Win10 Pro on my laptop a week ago, so don't want to mess it up.
    Thanks!

You might want to check your PC to see if your INTEL chip is affected by MELTDOWN or SPECTRE.

It's an INTEL design flaw at the kernel level, so proposed bios and WINDOWS updates will not properly fix the problem. The WIN patches are assumed to hit your CPU power by anywhere from 10-30% (or....something like that)

MELTDOWN & SPECTRE checker (free) :

Turn down your audio before you run this tool.

Someone correct me if my info is incorrect. I haven't heard anymore info about these security issues.

For dedicated audio production/mixing PCs, I recommend downloading WINDOWS 10 ENTERPRISE N LTSB. Then, install the media pack update to restore a few luxuries that were not included with the N version.

If you're ok with WINDOWS 10 PRO, then use the following to to download a pure untouched ISO from Microsoft servers. Try the WIN 10 PRO N version. You can download OFFICE etc.. too. Then, you probably know where to go get the files you need to make it legit. If not, PM me.

I can tell you from personal experience very recently that while I was unwillingly updating windows 10 it got stuck at around 75% and then when i rebooted it went to a screen that said "reinstalling your previous version of windows" so i freaked out not knowing EXACTLY what that might mean (loss of files etc) and i had heard things about spectre and all that i became even more worried bc that is a sure sign of it apparently, however, i was patient despite the length of time it took and eventually it was fine so what i recomend is that you absolutely backup your entire system before any updates. And be patient with them. Dont panic.

I would think so. I just found a conversation explaining that you can activate it using KMSauto NET (...patch/crack).

Doesn't hurt to give it a shot. Especially if you're using a USB 3.0 flash drive to install it from.

I think the best advice, always valid, but more important since that "nice update icon" in Win7/8: never update, install from scratch.

Another important one: make an image backup of the Windows partition once installed (Acronis TrueImage, Aomei Backupper,...).
Don't wait to install even the drivers. The entropy and murphy laws combined say that chances are you'll have screwed up something by then

installed a preactivated version the other day, win to go on a 32gb usb stick. being usb2, it took overnight and was stuck at 70%.
i then tried on another pc with usb3, took 2 hours and went fine. i disabled all the crap and booted several times, great. boot up time 1:20.
got a fast usb3 stick, 32gb, tried to copy. turns out the usb3 actually has 1.4gb less than the supposedly same size 32gb usb2 stick. cannot copy.
win10 management offers to shrink, but only by 900mb max even though 16gb are free. then when i try tells me there is a problem in the file system needs fixing first, but doesnt fix it eveb after several revoots and attempts.
then when i booted again frm the usb2, all the features i had disabled are back turned on.
this is kind of what i had expected from win10. gonna give it another try on the usb3 with a fresh install some day maybe.
all in all just a couple of wasted days.
