    Hello guys

today I got a call from a manager from an artist who got a record deal with an independant label. After hearing my beats & conversation with them they told me they like my beats. The artist told me she would like to have a collabration with me. Cause she wants to release a full LP. She asked me to make some new beats for her. So can you guys tell me whats my next step? Right now Im not thinking about money or getting paid.

    Thx in advanced.

    Lao

    First off...Be careful!

Lot of snakes out there... Lotta snakes *yes*

    Discuss $.

Personally I'm leery of even giving out a demo unless money is discussed.

If you do give out a demo or a track.Try to back up your project in a password protected rar with a date on it.

Just try to protect yourself.Looking into copyright is not a bad idea. *no*

But just even having a way to prove that you made the track could prove useful in the future.

Make your own tag and throw it in every so often, the beginning before the beat kicks in on the last bar of an 8 bar loop(be creative) and maybe here or there every 16 or 32 bars.
    (Or longer.Just don't overuse it)

Anyway just a couple of ideas.Others will probably have better ideas than me on this.

But that's what I would do.

    Wish ya luck! :mates:

Personally I feel you really need to be asking about any possible payment before you agree to collaborate (make sure you get a written agreement and signed by all parties). If you don't do it now, you may be disappointed down the line when you come to ask for money and none is forthcoming. Better to know now before committing time to the project. If you are happy just to get the exposure and experience then that's great, go for it. good luck :mates:

I was in the same situation with quite a well known artist but I pulled out when I read what they wanted me to sign!

    much easy,

if you already have a name in the industry you should know, otherwise just ask for a proper contract and don't care about money, be sure your name will appear on any release.

Back when I was fortunate to get some pro assignements the first thing I did was to join an organization for songwriters/composers.
They handled all the contracts, copyright issues and legal mumbo jumbo.
Plus whenever I had any questions about standard procedures or going rates I could just pick up the phone and call them and they told me how to get it right.
Some of that stuff can be pretty tricky, especially when you're new to the game.

I don't know where you are but maybe you could check around to see if there's some org like that in your area?

Best of luck with your work :mates:

Ask for a signed contract. If they ask you why, say it is for your own protection.

    Save your ass first.

    Here and there.
Well you have to KNOW what you want.
A collaboration doesn't mean that they'll publish full works of yours.
You could/should talk to the main Artist and then later also with the Label.
I wouldn't rush nor push too much for the royalties right at start. Sometimes when
you give some (free?) bonus you could earn extra points later!
But of course don't give away all your work for free.

Never forget: A (possible) failure with doing what you like is much
better than a failure with something you don't like @ all to do.
