Hi, I please need an advice about buying a new soundcard and mix console.
My actual ones are really old : rme fireface and yamaha 02R. I also have a Mackie onyx blackbird sound card I don't use. My workflow is :
drawmer preamp / mytec stereo converter /spdif in
    2 sets of monitors,
    pcm91 lexicon
    apogee wordclock
I may not need a console, I never use it as well. I mix inside DAW (Nuendo)
    Thanx

seems like something small could suffice
    Like a small:
    SSL 2
    Audient iD

    if you want High end
    Merging Anubis
    PCM up to 32Bit 352khz.
    Premium up to DXD/DSD(64-256)
Between 1.5-2k Depending on Cards (Extremely good Pres)

    RME
    Cheap used UC or BabyFace
    Newer UFX(+)
    500-1.4k

    about the same price as
    Antelope
    Zen Tour (includes FPGA/DSP)
they run some cool Refurbished Sales on Reverb sometimes

    Older used UAD
    Twin Or Apollo
    DSP Systems too
    400-1.3k (Depending on Software)
Careful about Interface ( too old TB2 or FW)

Most of them Include Monitoring, and some Possibly overtake your AD

years back I got Fireface 802 and yamaha 03D, then replaced console with more preamps (RME Octamic D and Octamic II), then replaced 802 with UFX, since then it works solid, I'm only thinking about decent router and iPad to control RME TotalMix wirelessly,

stay with RME, just get whatever newer you need, there is no better audio interface when it comes to driver and mixer functionality,
something like UFX II is most versatile nowadays (and imo better value than smaller UCX II), and does indeed work as a mixer too

FireWire, since the idiots @Intel cut TB2 support the others cut most of everything
that made ThunderBolt Pro like, being better than USB and most importantly PCIe.
    Now
its just a better Power delivery for USB, but PCIe like FW, ESata and i bet external GFX
    will die or are dead

    just my 2c:shalom:

@dondada I'd even say Thunderbolt 3/4/5 will die in favour of USB 4/5
