Just thought I'd drop this in here because it doesn't appear to be advertised anywhere on Acustica's website. Ultramarine 4 (€300 collection of a fairchild comp, two EQs and a reverb model) is on sale for €89 till Sunday, Jan 24.

My useless editorial below this line...

Worth checking out if you've got a CPU that can deal with it (though in my experience the comps and EQs are way more manageable than the reverb). I've been playing with the fairchild emulation for about half an hour, and surprised to say that I'm finding it compares favorably against the UAD Fairchild (which is fantastic to begin with). I hate this term but I haven't got the ears to identify it without using buzz words... it sounds slightly more "open" to me - maybe a bit more air or smoothness in the highs, I'm not sure. Makes it sound like there's more space around the sound being processed.

I find Acustica's webpage/marketing to be not all that descriptive or helpful, so if others know what the rest of this stuff is meant to emulate, perhaps they can chime in for the benefit of the rest of us :)

The eq is nice here but the reverb in this package is imo the real winner, nothing fancy but what it does is unique, natural and realistic.

yo - quick question for those of you with Acustica stuff. how does AA handle upgrades? I've seen that they often upgrade products from one version number to the next. No amount of googling has revealed what the upgrade pricing is like. Aside from the deal on ultramarine, I'm seeing stuff selling pretty cheap on the second hand market. Wondering what it would cost me to buy an older version and then get it up to date

AFAIK, all upgrades are free for existing users.
At least every AA plugin that I own has been upgraded for free without issues e.g. I bought Gold2 around the time it came out, the Gold3 and 4 upgrades were free.

This varies depending on what is updated. Mostly it's free but IIRC, the E200 for Emerald wasn't. But this was a completely new separate EQ.
