    Coral

While designing Coral we have given special consideration to creating an innovative product that would be unique from other software products currently on the market: not only our hardware emulation techniques have evolved so much to make us particularly proud of our creation, but we have also tried to go beyond simple hardware emulation and imitation (although the final result may easily deceive and sound like a physical product). The basic concept behind Coral was to try to establish a transparent process through a strategy that is not commonly used by other manufacturers. The EQ is unique and innovative, thanks to the high number of frequencies. The compressor is also unique and innovative, thanks to the high number of controls dedicated to the computer gain.

In particular, the compressor applies a soft-clipping strategy: compression applied to large dynamic areas is gentle and gradual, in order to preserve the transients from being cut off hard. Conventional dynamic compressors usually use a hard-clipping strategy, which flattens short transients and peaks abruptly (kind of a limiting strategy): when applied to a large audio portion, the result may be a bright yet harsh sound.

The EQ’s strategy is also based on being applied gently and gradually on large portions of the audio band (so a large and smooth bell), impacting the overall spectrum balance in the most transparent way.

We have also added an elliptical filter, which is often used in the vinyl mastering domain and is also appreciated in other fields for the low-frequency stereo control.

    CORAL REEF consisting of:

    • CORAL COMP
    • CORAL PRE
    • CORAL EQ
    • CORAL ELLIPTICAL FILTER
    Features actually supported in Core9:
    • Variable speeds on vector nodes improving the sound quality of the compressors and allowing to reach very fast speeds and precision.
    • Envelope followers based on control sources.
    • Queue messages used for several widgets like knobs improving the behaviour, control, and stability of plug-ins.
    • Hiddend components fault-tolerant inside nebula/acqua engine to minimized crash/bugs.
    • New wrapper to get better balanced AAX format
    • Several minor fixes and improvements (about trimming, sample rate conversion, distribution of sample rate packs, fixes on loaded program rate).
    • This engine is linked to Nat4 to allows the full automatic compressor sampling.
    • Switchmode optimization reducing CPU loading
    • Lazy loading pattern introduced to improve the loading of the objects

Price (Pre order): €149.25 (Regular €199.00)

So SAND is supposed to be colored like SSL hardware... What is this modeled after?

Acusitica Audio do not model hardware like algorithmic plugins, they use advanced dynamic ultrasound IR technology. So Sand is not colored like an SSL, it is sampled SSL tone and real harmonics. Understanding the actual technology behind Nebula/Acqua is a good start before you use the plugin.

FWIW, I believe Coral is sampled from a custom built EQ and filter, Iron, and 2 other custom preamps, then further taken where hardware can't go. The compressor has 9 detector circuits and shmod options, making Coral far more versatile than any hardware comp. So Coral is a new instrument tool unlike any before it. IMHO the Coral comp is the finest buss comp we've ever had in software.

As always, test for yourself, never trust anyone else to know what tools you prefer for your work.

Right, I understand. I suppose my terminology did sound confused. I understand that the Nebula technology is a sampling of hardware. I agree that it's even more important to know this when using the Nebula presets as it clarifies it's use and limitations.
