If you have hall reverb on the acoustic guitar

    and plate reverb on vocals

is this a good idea or bad? should both be hall reverb in this instance?

    Hello Newbie,

Depends on what kind of sound you want. there are no rules for this. Listen to what you record, if you like it keep it. if you don't like it change it until you like it. Its kind of like life is an experiment and you have to participate or else its just a tv show...

good luck, keep twisting those knobs.
    you'll find something you like...

There are many possible combinations, but I'd say this one makes sense. If the hall reverb is not drowning out the notes on the acoustic it should work quite well, as plate is a very common choice for vocals. The advantage of using the same reverb for both (could be hall or plate) is that you bring both parts "into the same room", which should create more cohesion in the sound. In the end you decide what your sound is, and whatever sounds right is right.

depends on the song and what kind of sound you're going for. In this case my instinct says send both to a hall reverb and use a plate for widening and thickenning the vocals if necessary....but if you're going for a vintage vibe it might be a better idea to go all plate and maybe a little room for the guitar. And then if there's some other sustaining element (strings, keyboards, etc.) maybe play a little with the early/late reflections ballance. You can also try going without reverb, or use delay or chorus instead.

There's a lot to choose from, but if it's just guitar and vocals i'd say it's a good instance to experiment.
