Malcolm Young, rhythm guitar extraordinaire of AD/CD has just died today at age 64. He had quit the music world in 2008 due to dementia, and he was hospitalised at his time of death. Malcolm was the genius behind AC/DC. Angus Young, his younger brother, is the frontman with the school uniform and the stage craze, but Malcolm was the man behind the harmony work and the compositional hooks. Anyone who's tried to play AC/DC music with just one guitar player knows how nearly impossible it is to play a tune properly without an ace rhythm player like Malcom. In a way, he was already gone when he quit playing. It is said his dementia was a side effect of alcohol abuse, but what he left in the music world is beyond the man himself. He'll be missed.

A kind of a rarity - Here's Malcolm sharing the lead guitar role with his brother (He recorded the solo in the Jailbreak '74 EP):

Another sad day for the rock world.

The post was originally intended to share the news report from Rolling Stone magazine, but I felt it right to write my own words about a musician that has served as inspiration since I was a teen. So I decided to change it and honour the man my own way. Here's the article I posted originally from Rolling Stone:

I was a big fan of AC/DC in my younger years, so admittedly older stuff - up to "For Those About to Rock, We Salute You" album. Those albums are arguebly their best work anyway. I still absolutely love listening to those albums at times. :headbang:

Lately I've been thinking about all these musicians passing away and thought "Young brothers... hmmm". I actually thought Angus would die, but it seems Malcolm had even more severe health problems. However, the first to go was the lesser known oldest brother George who was the producer of their records, actually. That was the first sad event that struck them. And now this.

Anyway, R.I.P. Malcolm and Rock on! We salute you.

It's funny how Angus gets the rep for rock and roll bad boy, but he doesn't drink or do drugs at all. His only vices are cigarettes and coffee. Malcolm, on the other hand, he was big on alcohol.

AC/DC Lps were always something special among all the Lps in my fathers collection, even then as a small kid i knew their sound signature, songs and attitude were unique and special.
    TY for your legacy.

RIP Malcolm. I first heard AC/DC from "Last Action Hero OST" and got hooked by "Big Gun". I got to see them for first time in "For Those About To Rock: Monster In Moscow". I thought they were Russian band at first because of the video title. Internet helps explain, I discover more songs and enjoys more. Thank you for the music.

RIP Malcolm Young. A band of my youth heroes, ACDC. "She's got the Jack" from their second album was the track that got me hooked at first. It's been a fantastic trip almost 40 yrs for me with ACDC (not to mention i love the Easybeats and Flash and the Pan but these are the projects of the older brother who -to me- was living proof that you can switch 180 degrees in music direction/style and still be succesful). He will be missed. Thanks for the trip.

Malcolm was a hugely underrated musician & guitarist & maybe didn't always get the recognition he deserved.
    Sad news indeed :(
