I Woke Up today with a popup of windows 10 upgrade , so i was wondering if anyone here did try windows 10 as OS for music production

My main question is : is win 10 is compatible with Daws and plugins as windows 7 did?

 

Windows 10 will be released July 29, so you cannot upgrade to a final build yet. The pop-up is just for reserving a slot and getting another notification when Win 10 is available.

i know it's tempting to jump on it but its not ready for prime time. very very glitchy, start menu becomes unresponsive , i dont recommend it for music production yet. when its ready maybe. stay with 8.1 now.

 

Before you do ANY updates to a working system, image your system drive.

Then, when it all goes titsup, just restore the disk image and you are out of trouble.

Good imaging software has saved my butt too many times to ever think about doing any changes to a machine without taking an image first.

I use O&O diskimage 9, cost about £20 for 1 pc or £33 for 3 pc's. And yes i bought it, its too important not to.

 

Be careful and test Win10 preview before reserving any spots or upgrading to 10. You may lose more than you'll get. *yes*

 

Just buy a new Drive or create a Backup/Clone or both

 

Do you get a new License Key ?
How would you clean install Windows 10 ?

 

I am going to upgrade my laptop, but my seperate music computer will stay on Win7 for a while, at least untill the DAW guys start telling it's ok to upgrade. I can imagine this could take a few years. Reserved it as well.

 

I would not recommend upgrading to windows 10 at release, certainly not for critical systems

Simply uninstall "Windows Update(KB3035583)" or kill process GWX.exe
