I never got the hype behind 2c-b and I did a lot of it going back to the legal RC days. It often felt lackluster so I'd do more to the point of feeling physically very uncomfortable lol.

But it did give me some really memorable trips when combined with other molecules. Shulgin called 2c-d psychedelic tofu, for me 2c-b was psychedelic salt&pepper lol.

lol.its just people having fun! the music is widely successful. Hyper pop is a fun / dont take yourself seriously genre. Its like the blink 182 pop punk bastard child of EDM. Its also more than just the music. its a culture, with fashion trends, their own party vibes etc. its a whole thing.

If the beats in your trash folder are better than their stuff, wheres the success? Also, im sure old people said your favorite genre from 20 years ago was mind numbing and trash.

take some 2cb, and try to enjoy and appreciate some genres you may not like at first glance.

 

The new Charli XCX album is ace, as was Caroline Polachek's one before it, and I don't really like this kind of music!

I'm not from the UK but I discovered Sophie in 2013 and PC Music around the same period so I've been following since and discovering affilated artists like Caroline Polacheck along the way, It took me a while to remember that she was the girl from the "Amanaemonesia" video from Chairlift, I love "bunny is a rider", "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" and "Bunny is a Rider" amongst others.

She's an exceptionnal vocalist, the album cover for Pang by Thimothy Luke was absolutely georgous and I was suprised to hear a softer side from Danny L Harle in the productions. Danny + Caroline and A.G. + Charli are 2 very fresh duos of producers and vocalists in todays musical landscape I feel, both musicaly and visualy.

I'm from France but most of the music I listen to is from the UK

 

Some of those producers you mentioned are no joke, and they have been nominated for Grammy Awards in engineering. In fact, I am using material from "Desire, I Want to Turn Into You" as reference tracks.

Unfortunately the song covered in this MWTM is not one of the few I would have liked to see deconstructed but it's always a treat to hear Daniel joke around explaining stuff, he's a talented and witty guy.

 

Facepalm. I am from Germany, do no drugs except coffee because as to hear in this video(s) I do not want to like that bullsh1t and I know from people around me (from the late 70s) that drugs do not set your mind free but only make you simply stupid and crazy. Stupider and crazier as you are to be correct. And the music ... yep, it`s for those that became the stupidest and craziest and presumably made by their dealers or by companion-victims.

Of course drugs alter your state of mind ... but that does also a big hammer on the head. Facepalm. And that Party Girl ... I find turds not really sexy.

 

Brat is the best album of 2024. It's not my usual genre, but I agree with the critics, and the music production is very good.

I love this musical style.
It's as if we were in an alternate reality in which Richard David James had agreed to make music for Madonna.

 

The sounds are interesting and quite unique to my ears. I'm not sure if they are breaking any musical barriers, but the critics love them. I'm more familiar with Caroline Polachek, although they both share links to the PC Music scene, and Charli XCX has really taken off globally since this thread was started. Who saw that coming?

Im a fan of all music, including some Charli stuff, but her stuff is nothing ground breaking, and is honestly a pretty old hyperpop sound. its been around for at least a decade now. She has also been pretty big globally for some time, but her PR team or social media strategist really pushed her into the limelight with the whole "Brat" thing. Kamala is brat, etc etc, turning your brand into a meme is a great way to get on more people's radar. Collabs with David Guetta and others helped as well, but it was really social media, especially TikTok. The music could be absolutely terrible, and with that sort of campaign, it would still be successful.

 

I'm definitely not the target audience for this kind of music, so if it was crap I'd be the first one to say it. All I know is Charli outshone her pop contemporaries over the summer and made them sound quite boring to my untrained ears. The music critics agree, and since A.G. Cook is one of the originators of PC Music/Hyperpop, I'd say it's finally gone from a niche genre to mainstream.
