I have crazy Ableton CPU charge overload just with 2 Midi tracks:

    - 2x MIDI track = Keyscape + PRO Q4 + Waves CLA76 - Waves StudioVerse + ADPTR Hype

    - Main track = ADPTR Metric A/B + Shaperbox Osc + Waves CLA 76 + StudioVerse + Izotope Insight + SPAN.

    AMD 9950X + MSI X870E + 2*16 GB Kingston Fury + RX 5700XT + RME Babyface Pro FS

With just theses 2 track the current CPU meter is at 23-27% but soon as I play a few chors the CPU charge overload become red meaning dropouts even if I don't can really hear it specifically!

I see people on Mac having near hundred tracks with FX and plugins and M4 go as far as 200 tracks and play live with this setup

I really can't understand if the bug is Ableton related or on my device. I turn all OC features off and uninstall Process Lasso. My Windows is optimized for Audio use and Latency Mon don't even tell a specific problem.

    What can I do? Thx

To get the most out of your Ryzen 9950X in Ableton, you need to understand that Ableton is already "multicore," but it is restricted by the laws of serial processing.

Because you are seeing red overloads with only two tracks, the software isn't "failing" to use your cores; rather, it’s hitting a single-core ceiling because of how your plugins are chained.

    1. The "One Track, One Core" Rule
Ableton distributes tracks across your 16 cores. However, it cannot split a single track across multiple cores.
    • Your MIDI Track: Keyscape → Pro Q4 → CLA76 → StudioVerse → ADPTR Hype

    • The Problem: This entire chain is one "thread." Core #1 has to finish processing Keyscape before it can even look at Pro Q4. If that chain takes longer than your buffer size (e.g., 128 samples) to calculate, the CPU meter turns red—even if your other 15 cores are doing nothing.
    2. Bypass "StudioVerse" and "Hype" for Testing
Waves StudioVerse is essentially a "DAW within a DAW." It is incredibly CPU-intensive because it chains multiple plugins internally. ADPTR Hype is also a heavy multi-band processor.

    • Why it fails: If you have StudioVerse on a MIDI track and your Master track, you are creating a massive serial workload.

    • The Fix: Disable StudioVerse on the MIDI tracks while composing. Only enable it when you're ready to mix.
    3. Check Ableton's Internal "Multicore" Toggle
While usually on by default, ensure it hasn't been accidentally disabled:

    1. Go to Options > Preferences > CPU.

    2. Ensure Multicore/Multiprocessor Support is toggled ON.

    3. In the same tab, set the CPU Meter to "Average" instead of "Current" to see a more stable reading of your system's health.
    4. Use the "Performance Impact" Meter (Ableton 12)
Ableton 12 has a hidden feature that tells you exactly which track is "eating" your cores:

    1. In the Mixer View (bottom right), look for a small icon that looks like a "C" (or a triangle menu).

    2. Enable Performance Impact.

    3. A small bar will appear under each track. You will likely see that your Keyscape track is filling that bar completely while the others are empty.

    5. Ryzen-Specific Optimization (The 9950X Fix)
Since you have a high-end AMD chip, there is a specific Windows behavior that can throttle Ableton:

    • Parked Cores: Windows often "parks" cores to save power. When you play a chord, the core "wakes up," but the delay causes a spike (the red light).

    • The Fix: Change your Windows Power Plan to "High Performance" or "Ultimate Performance." This keeps all 16 cores active and at their base clock speed, preventing the "startup spike" when you play MIDI notes. from gemini ai

this should be an AI genereted answer because there is no longer CPu multithread in the Settings menu and as I tell my Windows is optimized so of course there is High Power Plan. Plus I know some plugins here are highly cpu intensive but as I said there is people I see using near 100 tracks and more with tons of demanding plugins.
Of course muting StudioVerse fix this but I need to use other high intensive plugins as well!

Nevertheless I put the question On Claude and he generte a way more better answer for investigations!
    Thx

the way you have those plugin chains built doesn't make a lot of sense.

Take this one as example: Main track = ADPTR Metric A/B + Shaperbox Osc + Waves CLA 76 + StudioVerse + Izotope Insight + SPAN.

You are using Metric A/B to check a reference track against your audio, and then adding plugins after it? Then, let's throw that into a nice time-based effect like Shaperbox, then what the hell? let's add a compressor.... Then throw on a few visualization plugins and make sure something is going right in realtime.

    All on a single thread.

Hello @Sacculus, please try reading the following. Perhaps something is misconfigured or something is running in the background. Try testing the plugins individually to see if that might be the source of the problem!
