@Daskeladden did you try Windows Debugger as the other member suggested?

No I never tested the debugger.
Just be sure to add SDK when you install:

@Daskeladden Nothing seem to be wrong. I think I will reinstall it. It is the r2r 10.1. Any suggestions, tips?

what you should do is to rename your plugins folder then open Ableton without any plugins and then create a new plugin folder (same name as the old) and add like say five plugins at a time back to plugin folder (open Ableton each time) to pin down what plugin causes the trouble.

It definitively sounds like a module aka dll or plugin that's crashing Ableton and once it gets loaded, it doesn't unload correctly when
    Ableton closes.

Hit the Windows Key + R, type in eventvwr.exe and press enter. You also can go to Start and type in eventvwr.exe.
Open it and wait until it's loaded the administrative events...

(quickly changed the language of one of my virtual machines to get the english names )

...now take a look for "Application Error" and "Application Hang" entries and click on them to view their descriptions.
Stop and take a deeper look when you see "Ableton Live Suite".

The error description should show you the failed module name. In my case it was Massive X that lead into a crash
because it doesn't run on my old CPU architecture.

Try disabling the VST2 Custom Folder location, see if it works properly using only the System VST2 Folder location. If it does and you've done everything @Daskeladden and @r4e said, I would take a look at where your Custom Folder is actually located and move it to another location. Maybe also check for rogue aliases.

I miss eventvwr. I've been having to use console.

So Ableton crashes without the plugin folder "connected" to the DAW? I thought you said that it crashes when scanning the plugins

Okay, don't add the custom folder until you have fixed the problem. (You should probably try and delete Preferences.cfg, Template.als, Undo.cfg and Library.cfg one more time after disconnecting plugin folder.)
The next thing I would do is to pull out ALL usb and devices connected to your pc, all except your mouse. Then restart pc. Then try to open Ableton.
If it works, then close it again and connect your peripherals one by one, testing each time by launching Live in between.

The next thing I would try is to reset Max for live:
    https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209774245-How-to-reset-Max-for-Live

If that does not work you should probably try and clean install Ableton. You can use a free program called RegScanner to clean the registry for Ableton entries. If you choose to do that I would disconnect all hard disk except C and take a backup of the registry before deleting anything. Also take a full image backup of the C disk is a good idea before deleting registry files.
RegScanner is easy to use you basically just write Ableton in Find Strings and do a scan and delete everything it finds.

s a @Marcsal It seems to me you have tried almost everything and still have the same problem. This make it easier to conclude that you have a system/installation problem. I dont think it is a plugin. Since your OS is the same version I have (W7 Lite) and I dont have those problems with Ableton it comes down to your installation of Ableton. This is what I want you to do: uninstall Ableton with REVO and when done run Regscanner. Search term Ableton. Look at values, data, keys, search for unicode string in binary values. delete EVERYTHING from the results. Run the batch file I will send you and restart your system. Discard the release that you have and reownload it. Proceed to install. After install do not turn on plugin scanning. If it is working ok proceed to add the VST3 and VST2 Custom folder. It should work. If it does not work, let me know and we take it from there.

I had same identical issue sometime ago. At last I identified the problem in a network /USB MIDI driver I installed to use my tablet as controller. I deleted the driver, and it came back to normal.
