You know advancing on this kind of works needs a lot of time. I have gotten down to doing it recently. Give me just a little bit of time to catch you by surprise.

 

I'd suggest you choose a scale, let's say A minor and then limit the number of notes you use. A C D E G. Combinations of these should always maintain the integrity of the piece. Of course there are such things as the deliberate use of other notes, so this is a simple guide only and the use of F or F sharp will not detract. But, learning to layer is crucial to understanding the interplay between notes and will guide you towards harmony. When you know harmonic structure, you will be better equipped to create harmonic dissonance.

Not bad, you're even working some harmonic polyphony in there and it's not dissonant. I'd encourage you to cut and paste that whole piece at the end and move the pizzicato down an octave and use a staccato string part, but do something unexpected and on the piano roll delete notes at random. Then make a new track of the random track, raise it 2 octaves, shorten the notes, delay them a 8th note and assign a flute.
