I'm going to come out and say it - the OP is ridiculously and unreasonably "high standard" in his assessment for piano sample quality. He is searching for a microscopic yet omnipotent item that simply does not exist and probably wasting some extent of money trying to get it or find it.

If nothing recorded is ever going to work, then buy a real piano and a setup to record it how you want. Otherwise, what's out there is what's out there and the problem is more likely that you're searching for something that doesn't exist or letting a similarly non-existent quality difference make it harder to ultimately produce piano music. At some point, producers working in the field need to come to terms with that and get on to work.

This is where I am with virtual Hammonds. They are getting close, but not yet perfect. So, I have a mental slider with sound on one side and convenience on the other. If the slider on a given project slides toward convenience I go vst. If it goes toward sound I find a real one and go record it. Maybe someday they will make the perfect Leslie simulator but that day has not arrived. In a band mix though you can get away with a lot.

Btw, the original poster sounds just like a guy who came to my studio recently. He hated all piano vsts and wanted to record midi piano files. I told him we needed to find a Yamaha midi acoustic piano but he wound up liking Noire.

First Mynock love your profile Pic
I'm not sure everyone gets it but it's great.

Just my 2 cent here : to garfinkle maybe it's something with your setup.
If every library "sucks" maybe it's your speakers or your MIDI Controller.
Or Maybe your demands are too high.

If you like a library you can tweak it with what ever effect you'll need

Maybe layering different Pianos can help you and cut it down with some EQ’s.
Just try some things with the stuff you'll already got.

You are extremely discerning when it comes to pianos - I really like Ravenscroft 275 from UVI...

Genelecs, a well tuned room and and a fully weighted 88...no, that's probably not it.

Well, I think you just might have.:winker:

I just downloaded the Pianoteq and it's nice - certainly better than anything Synology has to offer. Still sounds a bit shrill on the hammers to me- particularly below D2. The Steinway B Prelude is pretty close.

I'd kinda forgotten about the whole Imperfect library, so I went back and did a few A/B/C's with a few other libraries and the Fazioli holds up pretty well. I might try something with this.

What do you make of their other libraries? The Steinway, for eg? Got a favourite you'd like to share?:)

    But no audio??
I used to demo them for Yamaha, back with the late '90s+ models. They are amazing. Probably more so nowadays.
And now a certain company has the Bosendorfer licence, it's all good. We're covered.

Cool! Yeah, agreed re. the low register though. But not as disappointing as the mess that was called Light & Sound Concert Grand, or whatever it was! lol. Serious lack of velocity layers in the low register. Hope they fix that, coz the mic options were niiice.
Argh! You found my baby! Oh, well done @famouslut lol!
Yes. One of my top 5 or so I'd say. Now divulged! You can get a lot out of that one, imo. I prefered it to the Freddie Mercury Faz.
Strangely, I didn't really like their other piano libs. Maybe just because I was already sorted for other models though.

In the '90s I was offered first refusal on a famous Steinway Model D from a well known venue, for a knock down price. And later, from a studio, a Model C which I absolutely loved.
BUT, of all the D models I'd played, I didn't actually like this one! So I left it.
I also thought that buying a house to live in might be a more important and practical move with that sort of money though!

MMm. Sounds good, very soft - which is not a bad thing. However, it's an upright, which would be great for some cues, but generally a grand is more useful.

    Thanks for that.
