A New Microphone or a Preamp

  1. Someone finally asked...One is hard to get up and one is hard to get down. This is an old joke I heard when I was about 7 years old. The other is,"When is a boy not a boy?" The answer, "When he turns into a store!" English as a first language is probably mandatory for this one.

  2. Thanks for working so hard for me.

It's actually American designed and they use USA made custom wound Cinemag transformers (as used in expensive pres). Regarding Swedish designed you are probably thinking of the Golden Age gear which is also quite good if you are looking for the Neve sound on the cheap

  4. An example of my voice

I fumble for a guideline to tap the great divine
I hold myself together with glue of diamond dusted sky
In ending I am nowhere, in my place one hears a drone
I am nowhere near of substance though I feel quite right at home
Ever larger from the inside, splitting skin that I might grow
Looking in from the outside like I watch my favorite show
Clapping wildly with the witness as they flash the applause sign
Confident the outcome as I have written every line.

    Copy-write 2014...superliquidsunshine

Regarding the the room, professional treatment is expensive, but a requirement if you mix at home. My hack for recording vocals is a SE Reflexion Filter Pro in front of the mic, and a heavy duvet or removal blanket to the rear in a V-shape.

Note: I don't do "proper" mixing at home, I just need to record "production level" vocals.

Well, you must now tell what you like/dislike in your voice...
    I liked! :break:
First song song lacks bass, compressor, very nasal
secound: more body lack compressor too, it fits very well in the music
Third: midi orquestration obvioulsy, but it can be really better with better kontakt libs and automation (excuse for being noisy but 10 years of music university make anyone like that  )
    Some lovely phrase :break:

It will be more precise if you show the vocal fx chain, usually we get better results with lots of auxiliary channels
There are some good tuts around (but you will need some precessor power)
You seams ambitious, thats very good, exploring different styles will make you a better musician right?
You have an expressive soul that your voice shows, now you must do the same with instruments, ribbon breath controller can help, but you must think more about envelopes (automation).
    I hope it help...
now you gonna see an avalanche of audiosexers love (I really do not know if I make some difference :dunno: )

  7. I kinda do the same thing with a couple of large plastic shipping palettes tied together in a V shape with duvets draped over. I leave the back open because I feel that this is enough. At the end of the session I untie, put them in the bike room in the keller and it was as if it never ever happened. I have some nice looking carpets on the walls in crucial reflection points and they work nicely in a room that is terrible as the walls are concrete covered in board which reflects the hell out of every sound. The big next for me is spending a bit and buying bass treatment for the corners.

  8. Thanks for the feedback. It is just a sketch, nothing special, just to show my voice, boring but highlighting my vox humana.

You can make high quality bass traps at a cheaper cost, there are plenty of DIY tips on line. The reason why I use Relexion Filter is to cut down on the damaging frequencies that escape directly into the room in the first place and then rebound all over place. Every little helps

Great thread guys. I'm gonna work a lot with vocals soon so this is candy for me

After checking your example superliquid23 I would also vote for preamp just cause I think your vocal sounded pretty good already. I Liked your voice too :)

  11. Love your Hunter quote. First read Thompson while heavily tripping after a Dead concert at the Garden many years ago, Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas it was. I barged into a friend in Brooklyn's apartment at 2am the night before he had a big biology exam. He handed me the book and his headphones to plug his Teak 4 track reel to reel along with his'66 Fender Strat. He then went back into his bedroom and I read the book cover to cover and then jammed with myself. Great memory.

  12. I am heavily leaning in this direction from everything I have listened to and read about Tone Beast. I would certainly appreciate the different vibes however slight they may or not be that this pre can achieve. Cool bones for the call, my friend.

  13. Tone Beast looks great. In the USA it is 599 bucks, but here in my new land it is crazy flucking expensive, 892 translated to dollars, almost 300 bills more.

  15. Plunked down the cash and it should come next week. Me's got the jitters as this cash is steep. Hope all works out 'cause the Babyface pres make me shudder and try to put my ears 'tween my knees. The warm should get me just where I hope to be, in sonic that heaven so sweet if you please. Please.
