I have yet had to pay for anything from "the sister site". I do know they use file sharing systems that have a "premium" option if you want to download more than 1 thing per hour but that is all i have seen so far and that is totally legit imo. I pay for a premium newgroup service for the bigger downloads

 

Hold on, the way I'm reading this is, R2R's keygens might not work unless I put this .cmd entry into my system directory? If this is true, I'm feeling a bit uneasy about doing this.

nothing to be uneasy about unless you like that site. you can also remove shit site from host file and visit, then put back to use r2r release

but we all trust r2r. this is why we run there exe on our computers. we must trust them now too. that site is shit and we should not visit

this is why the site use r2r name, r2r already put in the work to be trustful

 

I'm just sitting here with my popcorn waiting for a certain user or two to come here and question R2R's core beliefs as they haven't personally sent them an e-mail to state all of this...

just hope it's a one time thing..and their releases will detect this "modification" upon install...

hacking them? highly unlikely... they would probably detect you early on and your data/computer might end up

yes it is dirty, considering it will not achieve anything. that phony site will still be standing since it attracts all sorts of individuals who don't care who/what r2r is, well unless the owners decide to shut it down. all this magical solution does is to annoy all others.

fortunately there is a simple fix that doesn't require editing system files in order to install a damn vst.

 

i have to agree i think the hosts file should not be something required to use an R2R keygen unless the software calls home. I completely understand where R2R is coming from tho and I would be pissed as hell if I were them. We need some good hackers to DDOS the website or something to take them offline or get them to quit it. Much respect for R2R but I would really like to see the future keygens not have this requirement as i archive a lot of plugins to use later or if i need to reinstall my OS etc. please let's just all work together so R2R can be as awesome as they are and not be taken advantage of.

 

Me too. Although when running a keygen etc. you never really know for sure what it might do to your system, so you're kinda fucked already. And at least with .cmd files you can basically open them as text files and check what they do. Anyway, I ran the .cmd file (as admin) and for one reason or another it didn't work. Ended up adding the line to .hosts file manually. It worked. The keygen apparently requires the line in the hosts file to run (and nothing else).

 

So, do I get this right:

A group of crackers: "yo, if you want to install our release, you have to edit your hostfile to our liking! just run this little tool "R2R_CAN_HIJACK_ANY_TRAFFIC_WE_WANT_AND_DO_ALL_KINDS_OF_MALICIOUS_STUFF_WITH_IT.cmd" and you're good."
the general public: "woo-hoo! R2R FTW! You're awesome! R2R has done it again!"

anyhow, I don't follow the "block website" cmd thing... so wait... new releases will have that command?.. and we have to run it to extract the rars?... and the command blocks fake websites on our own computer?... I don't follow.

The only thing R2R asked from you is to block that Fake Website. And for all the things they have given us, its the least you could do.

 

I got no problem with this hosts thang.

But I do feel it's like we're those useless plug hoarding no good ferking leechers who don't deserve to get jack diddly squat from the internal releases most times of the year, but when there's something bad comin down well then we're all part of the team then.

R2R ain't got no hinterland in the wider community. There's no sense of loyalty. Cuts both ways guys.

 

Well, well well, it seems like I opened a Pandora's Box with this thread. Now we have members that are concerned over an R2R generated CMD prompt. WTF? You guys cannot be serious. For years you have been running in your computers, your kid's computers, your employer's computers Key Generators and patches from R2R and all of a sudden you are "concerned"?!! Are you freaking serious??
