Bumping the thread. There's a little over 2 1/2 weeks to go until the last day of submission.

My thing has turned into something composed of two short spurts of motivational insights of the protagonist, Ester Moses, and a main song that hopefully ties them together. There is also a disembodied ending that I mostly stitched together from a conversation that I recorded from the speaker of my phone last night (my friend Ursula called to ask me a favor and the mic was hot, so I spliced together things she said and played them all simultaneously, copy and pasting each track to make each longer, then added other ingredients in a hodgepodge manner of fade-ins...one is forward and the other reversed and each panned left and right) but still needs tortured, disembodied vocal utterances. I'm reaching out to fleemale friends today for what it takes to do this. The main song bit is written but it is now down to how I wish to record and perform it.

    Bon chance.

    Yhea this is interesting.

I really enjoyed everyone's contributions and the difference in textures on offer. Though I am not surprised there aren't more. Give most artistic people a deadline and their brain thinks July that means I've got till September to finish this.

I came up with a mostly organ and classical guitar construct that still needs me to motivate myself to record do the last minute or so melody on guitar when it's quiet and the blender or the dog aren't running around effing everything up.

Then out of sheer boredom while laying bed sick with whatever they call this summer's bug, FLiRT I think, for three days I came up with a DnB version on laptop. That one still needs me to get my old bass out of case and tune it up if the strings and the pots haven't decayed to dust and do the bridge section. Also everything always feels derivative, that's just a consequence of having been on the planet a bit longer though.

In all honesty I can't choose and asking here by posting spinets and having others choose for me is most def. cheating.

I like the idea, I've done it before but sometimes the motivation to finish when it's nice outside and dogs are climbing up the walls just doesn't ever materialize. Maybe this heatwave it it ever actually gets oppressive hot will force me to stay inside and be bored enough to just finish something.

Anyways I just posted all this to try to motivate myself through self shaming to be less lazy and either to either take shit or get off the can.

Gosh, it's the same from my angle. I can't stand to imagine that my stuff is like others music at all. It's not like I actually try to be off kilter, but if I notice it, it's a cringe moment for me. Even if I do a cover it isn't going to be merely my copy, but rather I have to imagine that the song is mine and cut it perhaps from the same cloth but with other shapes. Are plaid business suits with lederhosen in this year? They are for me.

I just added a few more tracks to the
Submarine Investigations soundcloud that I invented for Lois's painting if anyone is interested.

:rofl:All of a sudden, I imagined that - in secret - you're in fact a Scottish bagpipe player, member of an ultra-secret (and ultra-Scottish) cult: Each time they reunite secretly into secret caves to play ultra-secret bagpipe tunes, it is tradition that women and men pull off their kilt first, to pay a vibrant homage to their ultra-secret - naked - Divinity...*)

(who did the artwork? you? eventually i want to put this on youtube just in case)
had a few spare hours and made this. i started at a slow tempo, wanted to do ambient, but it quickly turned into a 132bpm track... not great mix, but i wanted to one last track before formatting. should listen to other entries as well when ive got some spare time. writing this as i listen

in the beginning, there were only natural sounds...
then cavemen started banging sticks on rocks and the kickdrum was born... they were celebrating something. life. nature. it was their way of being grateful.
soon after more percussions and the bass joined the party. there was a groove. and the groove was good. simple, but good. they danced.
when cavemen evolved language, they included it in their tracks... rhythmic words, mantras, incantations...
they spent a lot of time trying to evolve more sounds, build instruments, when suddenly one of them realised they could also play other notes different than the root... thus melodies were born... the major scale...
one smart caveman thought that if they could change the notes of melodies, why shouldn't they change the note of the bass? "hey, change it back!" said the other cavemen. "time to go back 'home' now" and thus tension and release were born...
maybe when they evolve more, our cavemen will have invented the inverted 6th, counterpoint and a good snare... but for now, they were happy. one by one they slowly stopped playing, feeling their objective was complete.. they let nature return to its sounds... their celebration was complete.

Yes, that is a painting of mine. You can certainly use it in a video and have my blessing, though if it is associated with any commercial release then no. If so, then we'd need to talk about it.

Your entry is cool beans. That sound that you use on the 2 beat sounds old, old like a digeridoo and the whispy, ethereal undersound at the fadeout lends an air of the mystic for me!

Very interesting song, hypnotizing, and surprisingly relaxing for the mind... And very inspired and inspiring presentation, bravo!

...Just, tbh, a little bit too repetitive for my taste, reading the story I think I expected more percussive / organic, rhythmic sounds; more evolving, changing (progressive?) sound in general...

But of course I'm far from being a Trance / EDM specialist, so I very well could be completely aside...

thx for listening. i tried to put more percussions and drums and more automations but it became too busy quickly, i wanted a bit of a cleaner sound. now i regret not having put more drums though. the thing is, i needed to finish this track in 2-3 hours maximum. every time i stopped for a smoke i froze everything on the project and i had my phone with me with the painting, thinking what was coming next.

    have a good weekend all

Only 3 hours of work? Wow, it changes everything! I couldn't achieve a concept + composition + mix like yours in only 3 hours! :shalom:

Automation is not always necessary to obtain good results, sometimes, just superposing a quick percussion pattern (to those you already have made, "poly-rhythmic" style), a break or an FX is enough to "refuel the motor" or "relaunch the rocket", as we used to say at the times when I played Metal with "rebel" friends (looong time ago)...
    :metal: :phunk:
