    Un-social media and un-musicians
Hip-Hop-Rap Un-Music by people who can't sing and have no idea about music.

Rapper Sido sees it: "I can't sing!" The German rapper Sido (“Pictures in the Head”) is doing hip hop today because he lacks the voice for other types of music. "Why did I become a rapper? Because I can't sing. But I wanted to make music.

Yes, it is kind of sad. The worst part is that some of the autotune only artist can actually sing, on key, with projection and proper inflection and stay in time. For some it's a cool sound for some it's the only way, but it is over used and getting trite.

To each his own I guess, like all fads of the past it will pass.

Lots of good modern stuff out there, you just don't find it in the popular realms. You have to sort through 90% of all art and entertainment to find the things that work for you. Same as it ever was, except now there is more crap to sift and filter.

@Howard, don't get me wrong, it wasn't about judging him, but rather determining why people can't sing. Or to put it another way, it's not singing.

The music of the non-musicians is only used for personal self-expression in the world wide web.
Has nothing to do with art - the main thing is that you are represented there with something.

Good thing with music is that when it's out, it stay there.

You don't like anything from the last 10 year ? you can still listen the stuff you like from before.
You want to discover something new, but still doesn't like today's music ? There is a ton of unknow stuff from every decade since recording exist to discover and enjoy - lot without autotune or without distorted guitar (every generation got its own "shitty new trend" to complain about)

You'll see that we mostly remember the good stuff but forgot about shitty 00/90/80/70/60s music, or whatever era you're nostalgic about. Talent as no time, but the same go for mediocrity.
Before all that "home studio/self releasing" thing, we had less music, but still shitty stuff, and probably lot of genius unable to show their talent, the selection was made by some old guy who mostly got their eyes on their budget first. So sure, lot of talent did make the cut.
Now everyone can release something and we are the one who got to choose. The talent is still there, the mediocrity too, you're the filter, it's not the label's mission to choose for us.

And you can still find that 1% without autotune if you're not into that, it's out there :)

That's how it is when you're famous, every editor or journalist who has no idea but thinks he has a clue, writes and asks what he wants, whether that is true or untrue, it is not Sido but the journalist who decides.

Only garbage singers need auto tune. Think of Nat King Cole, Otis Redding, John Lennon, Robert Plant or Roger Daltrey...
Now 'singing' is comprised of 20% of machine singing, 30% of rhythm machines and reverbs, 30% of production tweaks and synths and 20% of human voice.

Yeah, lots of good music to be found but has to be searched out. Once popular music became a tool for pushing products, celebrity, and shaming peoples lifestyles if they weren't keeping up with the jonses, there was a formula created towards the making of that music and it's the stuff that is pushed in everyone's faces 24/7.

I don't see the problem in using autotune (or similar) to correct the voice when the singer makes small mistakes. As long as he/she doesn't act like a great vocalist.
Another thing is to over-use it to give that effect.
