    To me, the best New Age music (holding Vangelis as the pinnacle, and some 80s era Mike Oldfield) was mostly about lush analog pads augmented with what would now be thought of as world music instruments and elements. Say, a bell sound that later would have come from a D-50 or Wavestation would have been a real bell. Real kotos. That sort of thing.
