    Afternoon all

I'm after a couple of vst's that would be great for making 8 bit keygen style music, i have a couple of synths already, but i'm struggling to find an 8 bit drum vst if such a thing exists

Or any other 8 bit synths you would recommend would be appreciated as well, but more so the drums, as that's what i'm missing at the moment

    Cheers guys

    Hows about Hello Robot's BitBox...

There's quite a few good chipsound VSTs out there, most seem to be freeware...

As far as i remember there ain´t no 8 bit drum machine. Buut you have some options: 1-putting a bit crusher on the main output of you drumtrack or in each drum part individually 2- Nerve has a built-in effect per drum part called bit reducer,, where you can get that arcade sound on your drums.

Try putting Bitspeak on your synths to make them sound 8-bity.

Addictive Drums 8-bit Sample library exists. Also reFX Quadra SID will easily produce lower bit drum sounds.

Battery also has a bit-reduction effect. Also there is ToneBoosters Time Machine which is free. Then Sonalksis has Grimebox in the Creative Elements bundle.

I use these 3 quite often, the portamento on the synths is such a sexy sound in my opinion.

kearnsy: Thats Modplug tracker. Not necessarily 8bit sound, you can do this by using a single sample for bass, lead and couple of drum hits. The effect is achieved when the samples are stretched out combined with tracker's modulation effects which are entered manually for every single instance. Try Modplug, I believe it is still active and developed, now known as OpenMPT. I miss the tracking days, sometimes wish a modern daw had the support for entering notes in this vertical syle.
