Yep, that's (one of) the classic.
You could also look for string machine at our sister site.

If Overture is in the ballpark, you could also try Edirol Orchestral,
some of the sounds there are quite "special", and have some bite/charm to them compared to regular Midi/Canvas stuff of the era..

Then also there's all the E-MU stuff, like the Proteus/Virtuoso, or X3 Orchestral stuff..
And why not other lesser libraries like GPO5, or Best Service Complete Orchestral Collection, etc..

It could be done many different ways,
so ultimately is a matter of taste/preference, workflow, or the type of timbre you're after..

I have to agree with The Avenger here tho,
not only synth but almost ALL strings sound bad one way/another,
doesn't matter which library you try, how much you spend, or Gigabytes you fill...

There's always areas where they deliver/stand out,
but other areas where they fail, or have considerable shortcomings..

So you always have to put considerable work to adjust the stuff, and make them sound good/fit..
In fact usually the more advanced/capable and massive the library is, and the more options it offers,
the more work it represents.. lol

So in a way of speaking the only Strings libraries that don't suck -> are the libraries I haven't tried yet :guru:

This doesn't happen as much with Brass or Woodwinds libs for instance, (in my experience)
where from a certain level of quality the stuff is just good enough so you can work/live with it..

(I work on Orchestral stuff tho, so the requirements are different, but still..)

(Thx for the Hypersonic mention tho,
I'm surprised I never heard of this one!)
