As I get better at music production I find myself not really trying to find after market vst's anymore.. Especially because abletons stock mixing tools load very fast. Are there any VST's that just destroy abletons quality wise? Are there any other must have VST's that you need in your tool belt?

I don't think any DAW's built in instruments or effects can not be replaced and bettered by purpose built plugins made by specialist companies.

firstly get a nice very clean, precise eq (dmg audio eq quick) and a colorful eq like a pultec emulation and a nice snappy compressor (maybe an 1176 emulation) in addition to the included Glue and Ableton Comp which are already very good. and get the free Waves L2 limiter clone: W1 http://www.yohng.com/software/w1limit.html. it produces fatter sound than the ableton limiter. hmm what else could be replaced...? i dont know i think abletons fx are pretty nifty when used properly. plus they are easy to use.

    1. Soundtoys (must have!)
    2. Valhalla vintage verb (Ableton's reverb not so good)
    3. Acustica Audio Nebula 4 (for giving analogue touch)
    4. Sonnox Limiter or Waves L3 (Sonnox I think the best limiter ever)
    5. Modern sounding synth like Serum or Massive (sounds of that guys no possible to hear from Ableton's stock synths)

Every modern DAW has very good and useable stockplugins. But there are allways specialized plugins that beats a stock plugin.
I do not use ableton. Is the stock reverb of it really compareable with an Altiverb or a valhalla ? I bet its not bad. But I bet they ...
Edit i forgot your 5 plugins. Waves mercury bundle ~ 150 plugins - This Bundle contains a lot more than 5 that beat any stock plugins in any daw. And thats only 1 Company ;)

What idiot disagrees with this? And please prove me wrong by naming a stock plugin that is considered world's best.

You're right. I can't figure out what I'm trying to say. I shouldn't drink and attempt to construct coherent sentences.

It's the double negation. A lot of people today don't understand it the right way. :)

Honestly, Ableton has such an amazing collection of built in instruments and effects, there's really no point trying to find replacement for most of them. Amazing compressor, one of the best eq's ever, and unbeaten Simpler, which is in my opinion still the best sampler for single sample work, and many others. Then there is Max4Live, and a ton of completely free or really cheap devices for it. But if you really want to go outside of that, I guess the ones worth replacing would be Amp, and for that something like Guitar Rig 5 would probably work, then for algo reverb, Valhalla reverbs, and for Limiter replacement, Ozone's limiter is one of the best, Pro L and AOM Invisible Limiter are also pretty good.

At least if one uses more than on DAW, it's a good idea to use external plugins to get predictable results.

I really like Abletons builtin stuff, but I think specialists can do better then generalists. Most of the time, if not all the time.

Abletons built in plugs are fine.many 3rd party plugs offer little more than a placebo affect.... Many, but not all.

There is no real panning in Ableton, so you might wanna sort that out with A1StereoControl.
