If you don't explicitly need 4TB, there's an option to go for 2.5" 7200rpm 1TB drives. Those are double platter, so still 'quite' reliable. Though I don't see any advantage of 7200rpm other than reduced lifetime, higher consumption and higher price, if you count those as 'advantages'

Yes there's a little difference, at best!
For most part it's hardly even noticeable, as high density platters boasts with speeds 100+ MB/s, rpm independent.

Summary: Buy 1TB 2.5" (multiple quantity if necessary) such as Samsung Seagate Spinpoint M8, with $8 USB 2.0/3.0 enclosure (worldwide shipped). *yes*
