    Won't happen. It's protected by woodLok anti-piracy.

I would go for a TX802 instead. There was something in this rack that made the sound cleaner, not so much noise, and "lushier" , more defined.
About the price of that one, it's obviously pure collector speculation.
I'm a musician not an antiquaire, So I would never buy it.

    If they sell the DX-1 @ 40.000, the DX-7 will be 7x more expensive ? I'm confused :unsure::winker:

Don't need another one, can't move for them in my house. I chopped two up for firewood just last week.

If it's like two dx-7 put together, get dexed vst, put in a midi channel in your favorite daw and duplicate it. Done! ;)

You are lucky that the Stake isn't in vogue today (but it virtually is, known as shitstorm).
Such a thing to say is heresy now.

    But I agree with
The offer is probably directed to the owner/supplier of this warehouse in switzerland:

Maybe there is a free place for this DX1.

That is actually one way to raise the market value.
Or, just an easy way to make a good preset :bleh:

Well, if I could swing a sweet 40k for this synth, I could probably afford to hire Brian Eno to program it for me as well.

Yamaha Montage offers an 8-op FM engine. Sounds good? For me it definitely sounds good, considering I played a 6-op FM8, and, you know, I kinda like experimenting with sound, so.

Depends on who you ask. Some people buy synths for historical significance, some as an investment, some to simply to show off status. Sometimes its all of the above. I don't judge what people do with their money, but in my case, I could never spend that kind of cash on a synth for two reasons: 1) I don't have that kind of money, and 2) Synths for me are tools, not trophies.

There's nothing that a DX1 can do that any modern synth cant. And put in a mix, it would be next to impossible to tell the difference. But I understand the obsession with coveting gear. We've all been caught in that loop at some point. I just feel that if the only reason you're buying gear is simply to collect it, you're missing the point of why some synths is so desirable.

Synths, at least for me, are meant to be used and enjoyed. They're tools for making music... and not just any music... YOUR music. Every synth has a character that resonates with someone and that character is what inspires you to make the music you want to hear. To simply buy and "collect" an expensive synth, to me, is the equivalent of someone buying the most expensive canvas and art supplies and never taking the time to learn to paint something beautiful with it. And the irony behind that is, once you learn how to make beautiful art or music, you come to the realization that you don't need expensive gear or equipment to do so.

    Where is the 'ridiculous' rating?
40 000 for an aliasing machine is far from appealing to me.

I don't understand such investments.I buy synths to make music,I buy cars to move,I buy wine to drink. This amount of money (40K,man...:deep_facepalm:) would be better spent in humanitarian activities.

    Probably yes and definitely no.

Definitely no because the new Yamaha Montage for example is a million times better and you can get the same FM sounds out of free VST plugins.

Probably yes because it is a part of music history and I can see there being people and institutions willing to pay ridiculous prices to own such a rare piece of that history.

    Sales[edit]
    Only 140 units were produced.[4]

Holy grail of FM synthesis will cost you about $1000 or less and it's called FS1r. It has 8 operators instead of 7 and more algorithms. DX7 is cool, but FS1r is much cooler. It also has the same drawback: hard to edit sounds. But there are editors, just like there are editors for DX series synths.

    Cheers!

Currently, I cannot see that pricing. It's more like 1300+ Euros on reverb and ebay.

I’d go for a Moog One 16, a sequential rev 2, a novation summit, elektron Analog Rytm 2 and buy myself a car with the change

I’ve no interest in collectors items. I like music and sound design :)
