I set myself a challenge to see what I could do in 30 minutes. I probably went a bit over because I got fussy.

Im very open to advice and criticism, love it or hate it I don't mind, i just appreciate advice!

Edit: now back to topic: for 30 minutes not bad. The volume balance of the sounds is a bit off, because your bass is actually by far the loudest while the lead is rather quiet, but maybe that's what you were going for. And could use some more elements and more high end. I like the concept of the percussion. The 30 minutes idea is interesting, but imo a better way to learn is by finishing songs

Haha some googleing helped and the problem is that mediafire seems to block direkt linking.
So to fix this just copy the link and paste it manually into a new browser tab (that is why it worked for me in a different browser, too)

 

I have a method where I press record (set to loop) and play whatever comes into my head without any prior rehearsal. I use a random AD2 drum pattern for the beat, and I have an idea of the key before I start. I'm usually looking for 8-16 bars of verse and the same for the chorus. It usually takes me about 3-5 mins to lay down 4 or 5 tracks (sometimes I copy & paste a bar for the bass or harmony parts). I have various templates setup for different things, and this technique usually throws up a few usable ideas or motifs, Naturally, sometimes it may sound like a bit of a mess to the untrained ear, but I think it has some merit as a basis for further development and/or collaboration.

arrangement is great , only change you can do is artistically only
you can make the bass a little bit smoother or Softer

I'll take all your advice on board, it was bass heavy when i changed headphones. I have monitors but since I was using headphone for the 30 mins I knew I'd want to fix more if I moved to them!

I think you're right in terms of finishing songs, because I usually make 'idea' tracks like this I end up with heaps of small concept tracks instead of whole ones that can be fixed or built on.

I also really like the idea of just putting down what comes to mine. I'll also try and do that and just use a random drum loop.

All in all thanks so much for your kind words and advice and I'll keep working at it and posting updates

Just remember the "idea" is the hardest part, and it's what the majority of people involved in music cannot do. You only need to compare the number of proficient musicians and singers in the world with the number of top class songwriters. Producing and arranging is another game altogether that can be achieved through persistence or with outside help, but the initial idea is the seed that is critical to the outcome. And if you have a lot of seeds you can grow a whole forest

In the past, most of the best music was made with an extremely simple idea being taken into the studio in a very raw form, which was then worked on "live" by a group of talented people. Nowadays people want to do the jobs of a hundred people in their bedroom .. writer, vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist, bass player, drummer, programmer, sound engineer, A&R, producer, arranger, mastering engineer, studio designer, acoustic treatment specialist etc. It's like a reversal of the industrial revolution and the division of labor

I think it's important to know where you are coming from, where you want to go, and what you are trying to achieve. Then draw up a plan of action to implement your goals, which should determine how your time is best spent. At the top of the music business, specialization is still the most efficient model, as it is in most things.

As it's mainly a hobby for me my strategy is to come up with ideas whenever I feel creative, and when I'm in a "dry" period, I sit in my room and try to learn the other 100 jobs which basically makes me a jack of all trades and a master of none.
