Yes true about Tesla chiding Edison about wasting time. Tesla appeared to be gifted in both theory and experimentation. Having both at ones disposal is best, of course.
i dont think tesla was thinking straight when he said that. building a structure using theory gives us a much better idea of the structure than looking at it in reality does. our eyes are flawed, and all flawed in different ways. also, maybe its just me, but i would say experiments are closer to real life than the mathematics that describe something. i understand that maths makes everything, and i am for the math approach for that reason, but it seems like he got his own argument confused. people like that dont have to be right though, they can say the sky is green and everybody will think they are a genius for saying it.
@tun Yes, and it's not as if there wasn't any competition between Tesla and Edison. Just as how the great philosophers enjoyed dissing each other!
Theory (math) means, everyone knows how it should work, but nothing works in practise. Practise (experiment) means, everything works but no-one knows why.
which is why tesla and edison should have been better friends :D good communication is the future of humanity. once we lynch the elite and hang them from the street lamps
I'm glad you mentioned this. Does anybody think we may have been manipulated into accepting higher and higher bit rates? Did the CIA Ruin Classical Music for the Masses?
if i'm working with young rappers, who are recorded their shit at home. i'm asking always wav 32bit float. because they like red colors in mixer
hmmm, I wanna play around with this because the guy I record loves long reverb tails and hefty guitar and can be tricky getting the right mix of distortion and reverb, this 24bit thing sounds like I could benefit from the nuances (which I will most likeley be able to hear but have never tsted before)
For tracking and mixing, 24 bits is the way to go, but for final delivery, 16 bits with proper dithering is absolutely sufficient, even for relatively high dynamic range music. For modern pop, rock or dance masters even 14 bits would be enough. Simple calculation: Assuming you have a quiet listening room with about 20 dB SPL background noise, which most of us don't even have. To use the full 16 bits dynamic range, so that the quietest signal is equal to background noise, you have to crank up your speakers to 116 dB SPL per channel at 0 dBFS. That is 122 dB SPL for a correlated stereo signal at 0 dBFS. Mastering at -14 LUFS you still get 108 dB SPL average. So you would have to listen at a higher level than 108 dB SPL to even bring the information of 17 bits above background noise. That's 29 dB higher SPL than EBU 128 calibrated monitors, and now tell me that is not loud enough for you.
