what else do you expect, windows makes 90-95% of the worldwide userbase.
at best they've 20-30% with music users, but ...

My suggestion is to purchase any Retina MacBook Pro 13" for DJ or 15" for everyday use.
Stay away from PC's if you are running mostly software and a DAW especially.

I never had a PC perform the way a Mac does. I have been producing for 15 years, i have had $5K Custom Alienware Mobile Workstations and I have had them all. Trust me any PC is a waste of Money UNLESS you know how to build computers on a custom level and have a deep understanding of Windows.

Simple fact my MAC's stay on 24/7 all good 365 days a year.
My pc's choke, get blue screens and with cracked software you are just asking for problems.
    Considering that.....

Mac's are for creative people. Windows are Business Machines.
General rule that has helped me reach the top 10 of beatport consistently.
Production and Creative Time or restarting your computer???? You choose.

Just my opinion based on 15 years of buying, selling and supporting word-class producers and studios.

indeed it was like that in the past, but nowdays I feel things changed a bit.
Win 10 is really stable, never had a blue screen and audio latency had huge improvments since older version (it was shit)

but 2000 $ is way too low budget for a mac for audio production. You should at least spend 4000 to 5000 for the current generation

As someone already suggested with that budget I would go with the last upgradable laptop from 2012 or get a really good high end thunderbolt 3 usb-c equipped pc laptop

Wasn't meant to be nasty. It wasn't meant to denigrate MACs or MAC users. It was just a joke.

what do you mean by i need usb? just get the newest macbook its a dream, buy 1 decent dock for home and 1 decent dongle for gigs
that way you just have to connect 1 cable all the time
whats broken on your old one anyway? repair seems best choice anyway

2012 MacBook Pro or Mac mini will do the job easy. PC"s are full of viruses. I know a lot of PC and Samsung users with gonorrhea because these two brands are known to burn and give viruses.

I own a pic as well. Quality wise , I never looked back to a pic after mac.

Bottom line: if u r a cheap guy go for Pc
If u like quality and class go for mac

I really appreciate and (almost) all comments and advice. Yet, it's Mac 'till the bitter end. I'm too invested emotionally, time-wise, and $ to switch . . . and I smile when I see the Apple logo. This company has become the big one worldwide, but I've been using them since the Apple SE, running MOTU Performer 2.0 (not DP). I remember PC users telling me Apple was a "flash in the pan" and would be gone soon. Well, they were wrong. So, it's Mac for me. When/if the company dies, I'll buy from whoever buys the OS X rights. The question is which Mac to buy??? Are there any new models/configurations that would work? I'm not opposed to a 2013, but no way I'll re-buy an old machine like the one I just tossed (It was dead . . . I killed the keyboard, trackpad, screen, HD, and case, and nothing could have resurrected it). If I'm spending lots of $, I want it to be an upgrade of some sort. If the new machines are without USB, is it fairly simple and cheap to add ports? Continued thanks!

A lot of us are/we're Mac guys!!!! Hands down Mac OS beats Windows any day of the wk. we're just trying to let you see through the fog. Macs are PCs with an absurd premium because there's an Apple on it. That's it!!! Make a Hankintosh for literally a small fraction the cost of the Apple equivalent. The dark ages of building a Hackintosh are over. The only reason to buy Apple I can think of either you absolutely must have the new touch bar or visual aesthetics of the physical chassis is more important than performance. Everything else can be met and beat handidly much cheaper than throwing money at a cell phone company.

I bought a used MacPro 3.33 6 core with 1tb HD and 32 gbs ram for $900 off of Craig's list. More power than I need but was way too good to pass up and didn't have to spend a shit ton of money for it either.

TBH I'd probably go hackintosh on my next upgrade because of the cost factor and customization but I honestly don't like windows.

DANG IT!... I'm not even gonna read any bodies posts... all I know is that I saw the title on the sister site and KNEW it must already be in a "battle to the death" for mac vs. PC.

I'm mac... cuz it's fuckin cool lookin... and I don't have to play under the hood like I do with my pc's (which is of course is actually a really cool thing... like fixing my car and shit, and taking stuff apart for the hell of it... just to see how "it works")... but I will still admit it... the macs look fuckin dope... and I know I pay more... my money, not yers.

I am still friends with pc heads... actually had a tiny "battle" in my cost accounting 2 class... where this dude is like, "macs SUCK for gaming...".. and I was like, "no question PC wins that argument.." and honestly, a few others.

    Why Mac?
    1) cuz it's sweet looking.
    2) cuz less people have them
    3) ready to rip, right out the box

Shallow reasons (1 and 2).. well, nahhhh.... just number 1... but who cares. My life, my money.

    nuff said

you do know @blaqmatic is a massive miserable troll here..? and he does this frequently , even on the most innocuous of posts.. then he points the finger at you for making a little joke.. despicable gaslighting hypocrite

really odd that artists ..would feel the need to behave this way over.. "hardware" as if
their deeply personal feelings were wrapped up in the silicon and metal and plastic case.

the topic was supposed to be about Macs, which is what OP is searching for..
making a suggestion on this or that configuration really shouldn't be such a big deal..
yet we do still have those who like to have a war over virtually nothing at all..
and dump "nasty" on everything just to keep it stirred up.. why they are allowed to continue it is ponderous

Macs are on the same gear usually.

Apple Hardware is built great , the only downside is that if you like to repair something you are doomed. Compare a only MacPro with a PC Housing. The Mac Pro is much better built and more solid. It starts with the USB ports, most PC housing have quite fragile ones . The Mac Pro ports feel rock solid.
Don't get me wrong, I also have a Hackintosh , just facts.

    I currently have a :
    http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/discontinued-products/define-xl-usb-30-black-pearl

Quite nice, but a lot of plastic I would prefer metal, any suggestions for a PC housing which is as solid as a MacPro?

There's no way to argue with that point.

Windows users haven't learned how to read yet. Go to to a forum that has an adult user base to find real answers.
Do a little more research before making a decision. Hackintosh is going to require some technical skills on your part, especially when there is an OS update. And of coarse almost no resale value. Go to a forum like vi-control and read some intelligent posts about hardware for musicians.
