I think touching your soul goes a lot deeper than songs you happen to like. I doubt there could ever be 10 pieces of music that have such a profoud effect as touching your soul. Some music may make you happy or sad or bring back memories but that's not quite the same.

There are only 2 pieces of music that have touched my soul like no other
    1. Travelling Boy by Art Garfunkle
    2. Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto

I might have mentioned that I'm a hyper-sensitive manical depressive, with a touch of ADD and bi-polar disorder, who likes to drink red wine. That's a sure combo for being incredibly touched [makes me cry like a little kid] by any music that I like enough. I take it that songs that make me cry are pretty good, I guess. However, there's a lot of that stuff that I like. It's hard to pick 10. I'm going to try to pick 10 that I'm absolutely sure will make me cry when I hear them, especially after a couple of glasses... This list is going to look weird I think...

Albinoni - Adagio in g minor
    Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata
Depeche Mode - Walking In My Shoes
Depeche Mode - Waiting For The Night
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
    Joy Division - Decades
    Placebo - Bitter End
Nine Inch Nails - The Great Below
    Nine Inch Nails - Hurt
Bush - Letting The Cables Sleep
    Bush - Comedown [acoustic version]

    oops... that's already 11.

edit: this is a list of the songs that make me cry. It happens. LOL /s

    Cheers!

It's a really good thread. It tells a lot about the people who post in it. At least that's what I like to think.

Whoever can't feel Bob Marley, have no feelings.

Some Depeche Mode stuff is really heart breaking. Martin Gore is a 1st class writer, but like with all songs, it depends on your mood, taste etc. of course. "Walking in my shoes" gets me every time, though. Can't grow tired of it. Even when I'm not depressed. It's a great song about empathy, the thing we all need more. It's never enough. I'm sick and tired of all the "bling, titties, and booties" songs that only imply envy, greed, looks, and all other things we're completely sick of [or we should be IMHO]... but we're not talking about those in this thread. Thankfully. :)

I'm absolutely not surprised by the stuff that came up so far. All great stuff. Most of musicians have at least a better taste than your average neighbour, so I'm not surprised. People should check these out. Even if they don't make them cry, but you will feel something, and that's a good thing. :)

After posting mine, I've made an alternate list, but when I see for example Depeche Mode here, well I think this band deserve a list on it's own.
Play this game (10 songs only) seems impossible for me

    (I'll need 10 lists a least)

    We'll discover wonderful things here

I'm back to break the rule of 10

#11 is Bowie's last, Dark Star
and then Louden Wainwright III singing Red Guitar which is sooooo good...and played on piano! The song and performance get me every time.
