Most great songs are scored on the piano (or guitar), both the melody and the harmony, before any stylistic elements are applied.

Actually I realized that I was getting into the same problem with midi AND audio files, so I decided to name my files and projects with the chord...
My only 'cheat' is performance related and I transpose my keyboard so the tonic is always on the C note (major scales) and A note (minor scales)....
If I use sample packs it's to bounce some ideas while I play live, and then I remove the sample files.
Separate names with a comma.
