For some reason on my mac 5.6.6 stopped working (just crashes) but all other 5.x and 6.x versions work fine. odd..

Do you not have Little Snitch or similar? if not, either buy it or stop using cracked apps..
you must be missing some samples. Try to install the content again.
On mine it seems to vary. one thing you can do is save one snapshot and then copy the rest to that same place.
I use 5.6.6 and when I add lib it often will crash after and then I open v6.x and it will be there fine on mac both standalone and plugin.
sounds like you deleted your audio units cache file and maybe other ones. You better check if you accidentally deleted some files. cache files...
