In the old days producers and engineers spent days tweaking those weak sounds made by real drum, and even those made by drum machines.

Sometimes I use 2 notes for the pads, e.g. (1,1) (1,5) (1,4) etc., as 3 notes can be a bit much with some pad sounds.
