The major issue is simply that AO tends to change the basic sound. If you open an old project you might not be able to reproduce the result exactly.

I too think it's useful to make these even smoother. I had less success on sounds which live from some 'dirt' like distorted guitars or drums....
That's the same procedure for every EQ, be it static, dynamic or spectral.
As to my measurements, it's not linear and I couldn't find a switch for it. In first example the difference was pretty obvious, IMHO. Phase...

Absolutely, AO tends to change the sound of the pluggies, so you must be careful with updating.
