yea, but then having 5GbE negotiated at 1GbE is just waste of money, for ex. Intel X540 NIC supports only 10GbE/1GbE/100Mb and nothing else..
I'd rather not, because lots of network gear doesn't support/like 5Gbe, 1/10 is safe, 1/2.5/10 is fairly standard, 1/2.5/5/10 is not always compatible
