If you go in preferences in Live and then you click on the reload (plugins) button it should work I think. And I haven't noticed anything bad...
Try to run your DAW in Windows 8 compatibility mode. That solved the problem for me.
You're right if you have a fiber connection.But that's not the case for everyone of us.
That is why I save everything on 2 HD .
