This. As I said above, it happens with nothing but the power supply connected to the laptop, so no other USB or device involved.
So are you saying it just needs a plug with only the live and neutral wired up?

It does. It's a bespoke Asus brick to the laptop, with a power cable from the wall to the brick that can be disconnected. I've tried different...
It's been like this pretty much since day 1, and was unused when I bought it.
