Estrange problems with Yosemite : PLEASE HELP ME!

Today has been a really tough one !

Problem ONE:
This morning while merely moving content from one folder to another within an external hd,(a mybook western-digital that I use for storing stuff sourced either the pc or mac)Finder has stopped working.
The freeze was at the manager level, so I had to restart the computer. To my surprise the entire folder has gone, not even a trace of about 300 GB of music tuts (several years collecting them ! GONE!)

The data must be there, because the size of the stored data is the same.
So, I tried to make visible all files and folders with not success,I also run a through search but nothing came up.
Then I tried to repair the disk using disk utility, but again disk utility says that the HD is corrupted, so what I should do is to backup all the visible content and reformat the thing.

My question is : Is there any option to recover my wonderful collection of studio techniques and music theory tuts?

Pls help me.



Problem TWO:
I have purchased an M-audio Oxygen v4 49 keys. It arrived this afternoon. I was really happy.
Goggling I´ve seen that the direct link doesn’t work straight away in Logic X unless you place the midi plugging inside the appropriate folder of Logic app itself. So in my aim of making the experience worth money I paid, I follow the steps, but when launched a new session of Logic the communication btw the DAW and the midi-controller it´s also gone! I tried to refresh the thing to start over several times etc, I deleted the famous plug etc, I restarted the computer, and all the typical steps that makes me feel a superstitious person, or even worse someone living in the 70´s when all indication of the user interface was a gigantic arrow, and to draw a square on the scree was considered Computer Science in big capitals!

Besides the jokes, is there any way to reestablish the commutation btw Logic X and the midi controller.
By the way a midi controller works perfectly in Life and in Logic 9!
Do you think that it might help to reinstall logic X 07 again ?

load up a linux distro first to see if the folders are there and not corrupt

Yep ----mostly the nice stuff!
Music theory and Mixing Techniques !
A lot of Premiere stuff as well!

 

But also the problem with Logic and M audio is also annoying as hell!

 

have you loaded up audio midi setup to make sure the device is active

try loading up logic x clicking control surfaces from the drop down then setup-new- scan all models.

the majority of things with mac are plug & play.

 

Today is not my day !
I know things tend to be pretty smooth but it stopped recognizing it when I performed the change to the direct link to be available in Logic.
From then Logic didnt pick the model in the list of surfaces...nothing in in terms of Oxygen !

 

Well all working...
It was the preferences file.I deleted com.apple.logic.pro.cs file as suggested in this thread:

I can't believe how complicated seems everything while in fact is much more simplier.

First: Get DiskWarrior, second: get Data Rescue or Disk Drill! Check the disk with DiskWarrior and rebuild it. If the data are still lost, use DiskDrill and scan the drive for lost data, this prig can almost recover anything. This should solve the Problem. If you have more questions, contact me.

 

Is it all for mac ?
In the current case the disk is NTFS disk, mounted to the mac thanks to parangon.
So, the entire rescue will be done on a windows machine, because I imagine that given the nature of the disk I would worsen the things.
Thanks a lot, I take the advice, and Im going to get these programs for possible future problems in the mac side!

 

Paragon disk manager/recovery is the best choice for recovering an ntfs disk (and always double check for updates on the driver you're using for rtfs access on mac systems)
If there is anything to recover it will do it

as a last ditch, you can try using spinrite (it's incredibly slow but almost bullet proof to recover date if it's there)
If you look around there are ways to enable native ntfs support - though like jailbreaking - I don't recommend it.
