Honestly, anybody who ever used Elements here? I just can't find it a reason to exist lol. They're better at making FXs.
Uh, and at overhyping stuff that makes your farts sound more anal-og :bleh:

You mean wave element, their subtractive synth? The layout and signal flow is actually really simple and it's easy to use. I think it is a little bit overlooked. But you're right, it is nothing special. Just a solid subtractive synth.

I use Element, and like it a lot.

I was looking for a synth for learning synthesis and for learning to program own patches, and Element is perfect for that.
It has just the right amount of controls and options. Not too many so that you feel completely lost, but more than enough that you can do a lot with it, and has every parameter you need to learn (not only) basic things.
You can also get a lot of weird sounds out of it - I think a lot of people who criticize it a lot haven't really used it, but maybe just had a look at a screenshot, or played through a few presets.
It's a joy to program, because the whole synth is layed out very logically.

Another big advantage of Element for me is the one page design.
You can see all controls and the complete signal flow on one page - that is a BIG plus for me.
Again, for learning purposes this is really useful.
You can go through the presets for example, and immediately see how they are programmed exactly.

The new synth Codex also has this one page design, with a lot of elements taken over from Element (no pun intended :bleh: ), so I like that.
I wonder if they will update the GUI of Element to look more like Codex.

    Isn't Serum also very new?

In that case I think it's unfair to speak of a rip-off, because clearly both synths got developed at the same time - one just got released a little earlier.

Yeah, but we all knew how serum would've look like and its features (also the GUI) since months now. Way before release.
It's the idea, not the actual code.

Gulliver comment still stands: The fact that one of these synth was known from the public much before its release doesn't mean that the other one is just a rip-of.
It's perfectly possible that both synths were developed at the same time and gave birth to similar GUI.

Of course, after that it remains to be seen which one sounds better, which is a completely different issue.

Reminds me the Apple/Samsung trial when Apple at some point, tried to argue that Samsung copied its design just because the phone's shape. Which is of course lame.

But Serum is also not the first Wavetable synth... and also not the first to use that fancy 3D diagram.

Most of Codex GUI is taken from Element, if you look at it - and that's out now for 2 years or so.

NI Razor had a similar display already. I think the Waves synth looks like it stole the bottom half of the design from Tone2 synths, and the top part reminds me of Waldorf Largo. The design is definitely bastardised from a few other synths.

Sound-wise, it's not as good as Serum imo. Serum retains detail better when twisting up sounds, they dont break up and sound horribly digital/harsh. Serum has set a standard in sound quality and Waves hasnt got their sound quality for Codex to the same standard yet.
