Hi, i could use some info and some advice.
I have my mind set on a RME Babyface. With that i also get Totalmix.

My first question: Do i need to install Totalmix for the babyface to work? Or can i do without it and still record in my own DAW of choice? :dunno:

My second question: does anyone use Totalmix? Is it beneficial for your recordings?

I tried google, their website and user forum. Even youtube. But found nothing but tips on routing and such.
Even here i found nothing on Totalmix. :dunno:

Your help is much appreciated.

It only takes 200kb of ram, and is very useful if you want to create submixes, or split inputs to multiple channels, etc, etc.
Not sure if you have to use it, since i have it installed and never thought of using rme gear without installing it.
It's plenty helpful on cards with multiple ins and outs, as i can create submixes for each band member + control room, and recall full setups in one button press.
You would probably want it installed anyway tbh, adds functionality to your interface without taking your hand off the mouse, cant see why you wouldn't install it.

To better understand totalmix rme has a channel in youtube.
Also it will give you a lot of GOOD compressors and eq (almost for eacha channel, outs and subs) and a delay and reverb.
Thats a lot of power that its stupid not enjoy.
Remeber that for recording, things like auto gain, snapshots, groups and the option to record or not the fx are something very good.
Now if you use the usb you can use an app for ipad (payed) that controls all totalmix
Me and my UFX recomends RME

Totalmix is the RME mixer and the sw bridge between hw and your sw DAW: how can you think to manage your audio interface and its parameters without it? :wow:

Its totalmix fx you mean I think for the babyface, a lot more involved than the routing version I use without fx, so I'm little help.
Looks like more bang for your buck if it uses its own resources, bet the quality will be pretty good whatever it does !

Looks like you've done your research. RME is definitely one of the best (if not the). Certainly the best drivers of any manufacturer which is like the umbilical chord and is the Achilles Heal of far too many other interfaces. The Total Mix runs completely separate from whatever DAW you choose. It's there for controlling the internals of the RME box. So ya, definitely install it. It's a fine piece of work. Some learning there for sure but very powerful. And then go ahead and pick your DAW of choice and interface the RME box with it by choosing RME's ASIO driver through the DAW's Audio setup\preferences.

    Cheers mate and enjoy

Thanks everyone! I'm picking one up today!

Totalmix doesn't look too difficult, from what i saw on youtube.
Shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure i'll get it after a few tries.

Can't wait to hear it in action.

    Thanks again everyone

    So, i'm back....from outer space :bleh: .

Turns out U cannot use the babyface without Totalmix.

But what a beats she is.
I don't know if it is just me and my imagination, but somehow even my old music sounds better through my baby.

Recording in Cubase, recording from mediaplayer to Cubase. Routing tracks from Cubase to Totalmix and back again.
    Crazy shizzle.

One small negative point for me.
Only 1 TRS input on the side.

I would recommend the babyface to any and everyone

The totalmixfx is not installed as an application, but as an add-on to the driver. For that reason I believe you will not have any conflicts with your existing ff800 install. Also I thought that ff800 had totalmix for it? I might be wrong.
If you need more I/O (and probably better preamps and converters), take a look at UCX. Also if price is significant, take some patience to get a manufacturer-refurbished unit. I got refurbished UCX from thomann, running great and saved some money.
